Title: Video camera in for repair.
Post by: Martin_1962 on 25 August 2009, 20:42:41
2003 Sony model with true 16x9 mode so no I wasn't going to replace it as I can't afford HDV at the moment.

Turned it on, smears all over the picture.

Yes the bad CCD chip.

Sony should be repairing it FOC, and it was posted off yesterday.

Anyway I won't be putting anything on youtube this year from Newent :(

This CCD chip you talk of, is this the same for JVC models.  The one I have when you switch it on it's just loads of vertical coloured lines.  Wandered if it's worth getting repaired considering it's 7 years old.

You had a very good result, especially as you were on the cusp of reasonable life expectation.

My previous video cameras tube went when it was about 15 years old. The recorder still works

I fancy a HD vidcamera, dont want to spend fortune, just want something  to take out and about in the car.  Must have a good zoom on it.

Any recomendations.

TIA.

No - the market is changing to much and the HDV cameras are disappearing too quickly for my liking

I thought most of them were moving over to Hi Def (HD)

I was looking at the HC9 (I think) but not on sale now - just the HDR-FX7E and HDR-FX1000E and they are semi pro ones :( :(

Don't want memory cards unless 14GB is under £5. And hard disk - I don't want to have to keep buying new hard drives for the things.

Yes I do not wipe recordings so Mini-DV is perfect for SD and I really wanted HDV
