Title: Yamaha FJR 1300
Post by: tunnie on 08 September 2009, 22:10:50
Going to pop down to the Yam dealer in town on Saturday, got nothing to do  ::)

Saw one in London today, looked big and comfy. Going to see if i can borrow one and see how comfy they are for a 6ft5 bloke  ;D

Riding position does not look as good as the BMW GS, but i'll give it ago  :)

Anyone tried one?

Nice bike, but if you don't do the mileage there's not much point in something like that.

I had a Honda VFR for 2 years, and I know why they say it's arguably the best all round bike in the world.
It's a cracking all rounder. (ok, maybe not too hot off-road ::) )
Get yourself a test ride. :y

Same, i was greeted by name for my test ride, sat down with propper big cup of tea and biscuit. None of those plastic cup crap, propper large cup!

There was no real sales pitch he just showed me the stock, prices, and the facts.

When i asked about Adventure screen on standard GS, he said, tbh do yourself a favour and get an aftermarket one, they are just as good.

Also what other dealer gives you 12 month warrenty on 4 year old bike? Warranty can also be extended costs £300 a year, includes BMW Europe breakdown, and it covers everything on the bike, bar consumables.

Seemed impressive, but when I rode it, I'd only ridden a small number of bikes, and not done decent trips.

Not sure if I rode it now if I would have been as impressed  :-/

Maybe these dealers get a load of folk that just fancy trying one.  If they have a VFR demonstrator I'd go back and ask some financially related questions first.
That way they'll start smelling a possible sale rather than just a curious "test pilot". :y

Monday to Friday is best. The weekend is not the best time when trying to get a test ride.

I personally, and my family (all BMW lovers for some gay reason), have found most BMW dealers to be truely awful. Aside from my bro's X5 through carwash with sunroof open incident from North Oxford BMW, my mum has had her HG replaced 3 times by the dealer in Bury St Edmunds to cure a PAS oil leak!!!

They make Evans Halshaw in Milton Keynes look almost compitent ;)

For a 4 cylinder, 600 is more than enough.Although most of those will be too small for you i guess...?And possibly not up your street anyway.

Difficult, tall bloke, just started ridding, would suggest a faired bike at least.

BM good size, but little protection and look top heavy to me. But then i hate beemers.

This is my problem, small i4's are just too small. Yamuna xj6 and gazed feel too small.
If brucie has one, then its not for me yet. I loved the BMW, felt natural to ride.

Just what I was thinking.
If I bought (which will never happen while a calc exists) every single last map, latest camera updates, etc, etc for my TomTom, it still wouldn't get to anywhere near £100.

BMW Adventure has one of the highest seats you can buy, my MT is around 31 inches, FJR is 32 ish, the adventure is 36, which makes a big difference for me.

Trouble is i can still flat foot the Adventure  ::)

Triumph Sprint ST styling is based on the VFR. Single Sided swinging....VFR.
FJR is a great bike, but if you want a bike for general day to day riding with just the occasional long run then it's a waste, and filtering through traffic jams will be limited.
If I was looking for a bike that I could use for short runs or long tours and still be able to attend the local sunday morning Grand Prix (and surprise more than the odd race replica rider) then without a doubt the VFR would be my choice.
