"Magna has pledged to keep all German plants open"

Bye bye 5500 jobs in the UK then. Thanks to our lax employment rules it is bound to be the UK that suffers, and I thought the germans agreed to not being protectionist  >:(

The prick we have in charge of manufacturing, that useless lame pillock Lord Mandelson, is hell bent on destroying all manufacturing in the UK, and always has been. He is not, therefore, interested in saving Vauxhall (or any other manufacturing company for that matter) jobs.

Another large UK manufacturing company secured a £200m loan from the EU to develop new techniques and products, but Mandelson tried blocking it unless he got a 25% bribe cut. 1st class corrupt tosser.

That is just wrong, I just hope and pray (although not religious) the next general election, elects somebody with the cajunas to put a stop to all this.

yep - this morning the news was vauxhall was staying with gm - must have been a deal cobbled together at the last minute - my guess is they'll asset strip the UK plants once any ongoing contracts are complete - doesn't look good  :(

German government are pumping in loads of dosh, so it stands to reason Vauxhall plants are toast.

just seen it on the news, vx and opel to be sold, and is the deal the uk plants dreaded and the unions where working to avoid, hence the cloak and dagger to keep uk staff happy as long as possible i guess.
As said, the deal involves keeping German plants open. No mention of the same for uk.

Presume the end of vx and dealers will be re badged opel with massive cuts....?

You have to ask why uk didnt fight for jobs in the same way Ze Germanz did. Got their towels out again the tinkers. Cant blame them this time though, we snooze again.

Ellesmere Port is safe for now, tooling up for the new astra. Luton has been told it is OK till 2013. In this climate, that's better than some.
