>:( Not happy this morning. After my episode with the tree jumping out behind me while i was reversing a while ago ::) which smashed my tailgate glass and dented the tailgate, came out of house this morning to find this.....

Had a run in with some scumbags late last night who thought it was ok to sit on my high wall alongside my house and rip berries off a tree i had there and walk around my garden. Got a lot of lip when i asked them to move. They stay at a "Hostel" down the road from me. Been told it`s some sort of halfway house for young offenders. Last time i had to get glass replaced it took 3 days to order and fit. Explained to man from Autoglass that i needed car to take wife for hospital appointment in Enfield Tuesday morning and he has arranged for replacement glass to be delivered from Watford depot and fitting late this afternoon/early evening. So, that`s another £75 excess iv`e had to pay. :( So far that has been my car, wife`s twice and neighbours either broken into or had glass smashed in the last 4 months. >:( Some of the scumbags were outside the hostel laughing this morning as i taped a plastic bag over the screen >:( Informed the police and they are going to step up patrols in the area at night. Rant over. Just wound up over this. Charity hostel there to help young offenders, and nothing but trouble for local residents who had no say or knowledge about it until it was opened. >:(

Annoying, gits!
mindless destruction for the 'fun' of it >:(
-
Forgot to add.... As well as another £75 excess iv`e had to take a day off work this afternoon to stay home and get glass fitted. :( Suppose i could have got car repaired at work but we have a secure carpark and it`s a lot of hassle to get repair van access. :(
-
Not happy!!! I'd be rather livid. They would only laugh at me once, that's for sure.
Unfortunatley they do open these homes & then let them roam around without any supervision.
Is there some one at the home you can go & see, not by yourself, but as a group.
There was one in a small town about ten miles from me & they used to get all manner of things going off when it was open.
-
Trouble is pete i can`t be 100% sure it was them as no one saw or heard anything. Pretty certain in my mind it was though. I have spent the morning trying to find out exactly who runs the Hostel. Had a word with a "worker" there about what happened and she was pretty certain it couldn`t have been one or any of the lads there but probally someone they ascociated with outside the home. Talk about sticking your head in the sand attitude! >:(

Time for a discrete CCTV system to be fitted.
In the mean time it's a pity Guffers cant take some of his lad's up your way for sniper practice. ::)
-
A bit of a tangent but, the thread title reminds me of a time when I ran into the back of somebody and a dwarf got out, he said 'I'm Not Happy', I replied 'so which one are you then'?
I'll get me coat!
-
as mentioned, install CCTV with wide angles.. so you can see everywhere and keep a baseball bat handy :(

I'll open the door ::)

And i will politely guide him through it. ;) ;D
Been to local council offices about it to try and find out more info on who "controls" the home and they have no info on it at all. >:( Spoke to local police and they are aware of problems there but as there were no witnesses or evidence cant take much more action rather than increase patrols in the area at night. He did give me a contact number to call of a supervisor at the hostel they have dealt with before who, they say, is "police friendly" ;). Just had new tailgate glass fitted a few mins ago. Same lad who fitted glass last time a few weeks ago. He asked which tree it was this time. :-[ Good job we`ve got a sense of humour. :y

Sorry to hear of your troubles Robbo! :'( :'(
It is bad enough when your car suffers genuine accident damage, but to have it vandalised is just awful and the bloody pits!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Hope it is soon all sorted for you :y :y

Thanx Lizzie. :y They say there is always someone worse off than you when you have a problem. :(
Ok, so i have had a few probs but i have managed to get car repaired for £75 and back on the road. You it seems have lost yours to the big miggy heaven in the sky. :'(. Puts it all into context really.

Thanks Robbo :y :y, but I think for both of us, and at some stage for all motorists, things just are sent to try us and we all seem to end up losing out somehow!! ::) ::) ::) ::) :D :D ;)

You want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen tonight - that really wouldn't be funny

Can`t believe what i read today! :o I was trying to think up ways of stopping these youths climbing over and sitting on my wall and ripping my tree to bits. Thought about the usual methods.. Gun towers, Mines, Barbed wire, Broken glass cemented ontop of wall, etc etc, when i came upon what i thought was a perfect solution. ;) Anti climb or anti vandal paint. Apparently you paint the top of a wall, drainpipe or wherever someone might climb to gain access to your property. It does not dry and leaves a sticky slippery surface which is damm near impossible to get any grip. It leaves a non toxic mark which is very difficult to remove on either the trespasser or their clothing. Sorted i thought, till i read the conditions of use regarding the law! :o According to the " Occupiers Liability Act 1984, Householders have a duty to care for anyone on their property, whether they are legally entitled to be there or not" and using this method means that it cannot be applied to any surface under 2 metres high and where any member of the public may come into contact with it accidently whilst using the highway. Also, warning signs of a designated size and colour must be displayed. From the street level my wall is 3 metres high, so no probs there, but i have to place signs along my wall. >:(. Looks like another case of the law protecting the offender with no regard for the victim. >:( Reading the letter of the law then... If you catch an intruder in or on your property make them a nice cuppa, perhaps offer them a biccy and make sure the bag of swag they are carrying isn`t too heavy for them to carry... Because "you have a duty to care for them"... :o No wonder people think the law is an ass at times.!! Been looking at CCTV systems today and may go down that route. Far less health and safety involved i think :y

Welcome to modern-day Britain Robbo ;) ;)
-
Thanx Zulu. You never understand why people complain about certain things sometimes until the harsh reality of todays Britain smacks you in the face. You hear of things and you tend to think "that can`t be right" and no it isn`t, but in the eyes of the law in todays Britain, it is. :'( Def a wake up call.

Send this out to deal with em.

Just put the paint up - they ain't going to complain

Hi Robbo, commiserations mate, but you just can't win with that sort of rubbish, the law is always on their side >:( my mum in law had trouble with scumbags from the local care home climbing into her garden and I went down the anti vandal paint route, fitted the signs etc and six months later the paint is dry! Its a very well known brand too and not bloody cheap but the manufacturer doesn't want to know, other than for me to remove a sample of the 'affected' area and send it to them for testing, so I couldn't recommend it to anyone. My solution would be to have a fainting attack as you are driving near the scumbags and 'lose' control of the car! (only kidding) ;D.......(I think) ::) :y

I have seen some success with carpet gripper strips nailed to the inside top of a wall. Sharp wee points, them nails..... :-X
-
Went down that route a few years ago H21 when i had some young pikeys in my garden late one night. Apparently a family of pikeys moved into a rented house nearby and were using it as a "business addy". Rang police to report trespassers in my garden and when i mentioned the magic word pikey was told nothing they could do unless anything was damaged or stolen. I decided to nail some carpet gripper on the top of my high side gate. Local bobby came past next day and told me he had read the report of what had happened and when he saw what i was doing advised me strongly to remove it. He said i could be liable of prosecution if anyone was injured climbing over.

Eventually someone is going to snap and we will see a massacre of yobs, which would not have happened if the Police had done something before.
-
hi there, sorry you are having trouble with the yob culture, its the laws that are to blame, they feel that they are untouchable, all the measures you take would come to nothing, you either get in trouble yourself for an aggresive approach, or they end up laughing at you when you take the legal ones, the law should be, you are not protected by any laws if you are breaking them, that would deter a lot of yobs! :question
-
Surely as the police are going to "step up patrols" your problems are over? >:(
-
I have just come back from Singapore - those yobs would have no chance out there - drop litter - you are in a litter clearance gang, they have no chewing gum on floor, clean , everything works but quite an authoritarian system. Streets totally safe.
Maybe they have gone too far one way and we have gone too far the other where our police have no powers, no motivation and no leeway to deal with these issues positively.
For ordinary decent people Singapore is great - for thugs and drug traffickers - expect the worst. Singapore landing card says "Death to drug traffickers".
There is a balance to be had - I think you will have to install CCTV to get the evidence.

Just presuming for a moment that the little Darlings didnt smash the glass, it may be possible that the glass was stressed or has suffered some stress since being bonded to a distorted tailgate and may have shattered on its own accord, especially as the holed area of the glass looks very close to the original accident damage. Was there anything inside like a brick or whatever to indicate that it was smashed? Just a thought...
-
Interesting theory Bent Valve. Did ask the Autoglass technician about that when i had previous glass fitted a few weeks ago. He did check carefully and we did straighten a small slightly creased section where the glass sits, and between us made a pretty damm good job of it too. The previous glass did seat pretty damm perfect around all the frame. No brick or any other object found inside car but as previous post said, little darlings were sitting outside the hostel watching myself and my daughter taping a plastic bag over hole and having a good laugh amongst themselves. Luckily i managed to get a replacement fitted the same afternoon.

smear dog poo on the top of the wall or "fertilize" your bushes with some manure.
that will deter them
