very neat and tidy and tbh a good place to fit it, would presume you dont get the sun on it which makes them a nightmare to see sometimes, looks better than most professional hands free phone installs i have seen done

Thanks for all the positive comments, folks!

I can't stand clutter in the car and this was an easy fit after some deliberation.

although you specify tomtom 520, looks to be no reason why it wouldnt work with anything else.

whats really got me thinking, is my stereo has rear usb....

could be worth getting a cable and seeing if that will power tomtom, could be an even neater job possible that way....

Yep-should work and be even tidier!
On your unit, does the USB power operate without stereo on though?

I have fitted endless handsfree, bluetooth, iPod, nav etc systems and the golden rule is test it fully before re-assembling!!  This was just a cheap, easy fix without buying any more bits.

I had previously given up on this tomtom due to glitches and issues with the Bluetooth (cutting off calls, word repetition, poor mic and reverb, address book glitches)-but an MOD electronics friend doctored it and now it works ok-for now..

Trick is with bluetooth without an external/separate mic is to mount it in a quiet place, as close as poss to your mouth and then TURN SPEAKER VOLUME DOWN to avoid echo.

Before the tomtom was doctored, I fitted an Alpine CDE 103BT CD/MP3/RDS head unit with built in Parrot Bluetooth and separate mic to my other car and this has SUPERB call clarity-very highly recommended product at £168 inc del.

The de-bugged tomtom in this new position has reasonable call clarity-but nothing like the Alpine unit which sounds like you are at home even at *&^mph...!!  It'll do for now... :y

Also-yes, should work for any nav unit with a small enough mount and a long enough power lead.

Just beware that units with older tech  :'( might struggle to find satellites in this position.

no idea...stereo never off either though  ;D
guess it is, as its a bluetooth unit, and phone always connects even when turned off.
but good point, needs checking that usb is powered when not the input device  :y

Well done that man, I like it, should wok with any sat-nav. Less obvious to the light fingered fraternity too.

Looks good. :y

I guess it might get condensation on it from being frozen by the air-con then taken out when the car is parked.

Worth turning off that vent I would think.

Yes-sorry, this should have been on the guide-I did it automatically.

tomtoms do not like temperature change-it leads to endless issues.

Cheers  :y
