Title: It's not about science, is it?
Post by: Nickbat on 28 October 2009, 23:19:49
No apologies about bringing this subject up again. While we discuss the political ineptitude of our government and the vacuum it is creating, just remember that bigger forces are at work, shaping our future -whether we like it or not.

From Michael Hulme’s new book, Why We Disagree About Climate Change:

“The idea of climate change should be seen as an intellectual resource around which our collective and personal identities and projects can form and take shape. We need to ask not what we can do for climate change, but to ask what climate change can do for us.
……
Because the idea of climate change is so plastic, it can be deployed across many of our human projects and can serve many of our psychological, ethical, and spiritual needs.
…….
We will continue to create and tell new stories about climate change and mobilize them in support of our projects.
…….
These myths transcend the scientific categories of ‘true’ and ‘false’”

Michael Hulme: Founding Director (2000-2007) of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, UK

From the draft Copenhagen Treaty:

"To avoid dangerous climate change and build climate resilience, the way society is structured will need to change fundamentally – from investment patterns to development  programs. This cannot be accomplished by a fragmented set of existing institutions."

Thats is without doubt the agenda imo,Capitilism has globalised in recent times and the left has dreamt this nonsense up to use as their vehicle for globalisation. Its very clever as it plays on conscience (pun intended)social responsibility and the shame of being  irresponsible if you are off message. And it seems to be working. :(
