Well broadband is OK - running at 1500 currently - keeps changing, latency is poor - definately less responsive than ISDN was, but quicker when it gets going.

Too far from the exchange for fast BB though!

Didn't realise I'd got so far though!!!!!!!!

Is it poor latency in general, or poor DNS response thats the problem?  You connected via USB modem or ethernet router?

100Mb Ethernet via a cross over cable

Not sure which but tonight appears to be fine despite hammering the connection

Eh? If its a consumer router, it shouldn't need a crossover. What router is it, or have BT offloaded another one of those awful Voyager 205s on you?

BT Home hub - well if I had a hub hub I would need normal cables not cross over, it uses Linux.

Using most of my quota too :y

I'll check tomorrow, but I though Home Hub needed straight cables.  Its probably auto MDX, so either should work anyway...

Can't find the manual - I'll check tomorrow when I might find it.

I had a cross over lying around, which I used before I found the BT cable which is straight through - I think I'll change tomorrow night

It won't affect the latency etc though.  Is it DNS slow to respond, or general high latency?

Dunno, I think it is easier to debug a large barcode generator which is perfect in the office but is slow in one factory, took 3 hours to debug.

Then had to fix someone elses C code - made a char 80 rather than 32

Try different DNS servers to prove ;)
