Title: Project Elite is here!!
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 16 March 2007, 22:25:50
I've just been to look at this potential Elite.. and put it this way, I snapped his hand off for it!!!!!!!

It is a 1995/6 3.0, V6 Automatic, in a nice green. With those big sexy Elite wheels on it.

It was dark, but had a good torch, and it's clearly a very, straight car. I could only find one rust scab on the body, the size of a 5p at most.. a little nick on the rear bumper corner, and a tiny bit of door trim has a nick in it. That's being mega fussy for it's age and mileage.. because you would have to look hard to see them.

Inside.. well... the leather looks like it's never been sat on. Pristine! And I mean pristine. All the Climate controls work, all electricals work...

Mechanically... I don't think it will take much. A tiny film of white vapour on the oil cap, but it's only done short runs. As far as the exhaust manifold blow goes.. it was described as being probably snapped studs... but I can feel a distinct blow around the EGR valve connection

There is a distinct manifold tick... but it's totally driveable... it's much quieter than my old CDX

(I kept quiet on what I felt in the EGR area!)

Yes... the front tyres are nearing the end of their life (by no means unsafe)... but he didn't mention that the rear tyres are brand new Pirelli's!!!

Brakes felt a tad spongy, but having looked at the disks, they are rusty, it's been stood for a bit. A run should fix.

I've not sat inside such a nice Omega for a long long time. I'm not sure if anyone remembers that Elite that Ronnie bought from SimonPfromDonny? I reckon this could give it a run for it's money condition wise... pristine...

I think it may have a slow coolant leak, because the coolant mixture didn't look strong.. but who knows!

Can't wait to get it home to play!!!!! !! ;D

Indeed.. best case scenario will be to fix that manifold / EGR blow in situ (drivers bank, so no huge heartache) and put in for MOT. It's not failed, just expired.

Next worse case, if there are snapped studs, then wop the heads off the 2.5 on it and do a top end rebuild.

Worse worse case, break it up and double my money  ;D  ;D

looks absolutely cracking, well done :y :y you won't forget to do the cambelt and followers will you  :y I think the Dream 21 N LPG system can cope with 6 cylinders, so you could still do the conversion, might need a few wiring mods but nothing serious :)

1) Stud's Snapped nearly flush.. there's no easy option for getting it out.

2) Seems silly to bother getting it out, when I've got spare, lower mileage, known good heads.

3) Car's got a coolant issue, and changing the heads would rule out potential problems with the existing heads and save on pressure testing etc..

4) 2.5 Heads will up my CR.

5) Once the HG's and Oil cooler are done, they're done, saving me any doubt for a long long time

6) May as well do it anyway while timing belt etc is off..

7) I fancy a top end rebuild

;D

Be glad to get this project out the way and tinker on some cars, got my alternator to do, as well as my leccy window button. My dads Central door locking motor has come up as well now!

If you can do wishbones and rocker gaskets, then the Stat is childs play

The only fiddly bit is the coolant transfer pipe, but it's not difficult..
