Would there be any signal loss on using HDMI, Scart and 15Pin Svga leads of 15 metres in lenth.
Have to sort a temory soloution out, thought I could get away with 10 metre leads, but 15 metres seems to be the only way it might work.
If these lengths are too long what is the suggested maximum length. :y
PC to TV
Sky HD unit to TV
Various Divx/DVD player (not sure which one yet, but have a few choices) to TV.
TIA. :y

Depends on the quality of the cable, I'd say. HDMI will just about go to 15 metres with Cat. 2 cable. Being a digital interface I'd say it'll either be perfect or unwatchable. You can also get active repeaters which allow longer cable lengths to work. No personal experience though.
Scart and SVGA are a different matter being analogue interfaces. It's possible but, again, depends on the quality of the cable and the quality of the termination in the equipment at either end. You will probably see some degradation, especially on the VGA signal and with hard edges such as text on a computer display which perhaps would not be as noticeable with a moving picture.
Not ideal in either case, TBH, and a case of suck it and see.

BTW: For the PC output, consider using a video card with a DVI output and a DVI to HDMI converter rather than analogue RGB.

Thanks Kevin, thought as much. Dont want (if I can get away with it) to buy exspensive cables if there is a chance I waste my money. Was going to try the cheaper oprion 1st
The PC I can change diection and use wireless mouse any keyboard.
But cant move the sky box untill more satelite cables are dropped down and installed from the roof (Dish on chimney breast)
Of all 3, which is likely to suffer the least in signal loss.

HDMI *should* go to about 50metres without any significant (noticeable) loss with a well manufactured cable). Going to be damn expensive though.
SCART is another matter. 5metres is about the longest without needing to go for something Oxygen Free and Nitrogen Injected etc. Again, over a 15m length, thats expensive.
SVGA - If running from a DVI, you should be ok over 15metres. Standard VGA output may require a booster.

Cheers, what about a card with HDMI output to the TV, I think I have seen them for sale.
DVI not a problem, my card has 2 as standard.

DVI and HDMI are very similar interfaces. Pretty much just the connector that's different. Certainly a better bet than either analogue format.
I would invest in a 15m HDMI cable of a price that you're comfortable with and see how it works.

Had a nosy on Ebay (as you do) Found this, but no specs on the cable etc.
Will have a look at CPC during the week.

No cable specs on the CPC website, will dig the catalogue out later in the week.

If going for a scart cable that long I'd buy it somewhere where I can test it first or at least bring it back if the picture is soft.

Was thinking the same. :y :y

Just order a 5M scart to scart and 5M HDMI to HDMI. Will do some testing and see what happens.
More intered in setting the TV with a DVi to HDMI after the advice recieved.
Cheers for all the help. :y :y

DVI is simply a subset of HDMI with the main items that are missing being the sound and some comms channels....hence the adaptors you see are little more than connector converters.
As for the cable, OFC (its good marketing!) and the like will have little bearing on an analogue signal, the key and most important parameters are the screen build on the various coaxes (scart uses a number of these), the tolerance of the various sheaths and the most important, the quality of the driving and receiving kit.
I had good results from a home assembled scart lead which was 12m long using some cable from maplins which was part number XS43W......if you look at the 4 cables they have on offer, the quality differences become very clear (e.g., note the first option of overall screened which is shite!)

In the old days, when we used to use analogue KVMs in the datacentres, we used VGA up to 20m. They were made by Compaq, and were reasonable quality cable, with multiple screening.
No real lack of quality, but then most of the server vga cards weren't up to much to start from (ATI Rage type chipsets), and the monitor and the vga card could only go to 1024x768. I think Compaq rated cable to 1600x1200, but that may have been a limitation of the KVM switch.
