Title: FM transmitter to connect ipod
Post by: Omegadoha, Desert Member on 22 January 2010, 17:13:45
Which type of FM transmitter is best to connect up the ipod to your car stereo? There is a Belkin type which plugs into your cigarette lighter or the tape cassette type. Which one is best and how does the cassette type one work?

I've had several of these. All crap I'm afraid.

AFAIK the cassette type just inductively couple with the playback head.  No FM needed.

I would expect a real FM device to have better audio bandwidth.

They do but on long drives it's annoying having to change the frequency all the time

I got one off ebay for a couple of quid a couple of years back.  It works fine.

But I read somewhere that these things have a range of about a mile, so you are not alone when listening. :)

I'm using one of these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-4-LCD-FM-TRANSMITTER-CAR-2GB-MP4-MP5-PLAYER-FM-CAR_W0QQitemZ320477805425QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CE_GPS_Accessories_Software_ET?hash=item4a9df73b71
It stores up to about 40 CD's on the internal 2 Gb memory which is enough for me but could double that with a 4Gb SD card.
I found the cradle that it comes with crap and it blew fuses at will but I bought these two supplies
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-AC-Power-Supply-Wall-Adapter-MP3-Charger-UK-Plug_W0QQitemZ250491509864QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CE_MP3Access_RL?hash=item3a52751c68

and now use it via a suitable cable both in house and in any of our vehicles.
The sound quality and features are superb plus operation via remote is great when on the move.
Both I and Unlucky Alf on here couldn'y get the video operation to work but I just use it for music.
I tried a FM transmitter on my Zen MP3 player and it just didn't work , at all !
