Title: What to do
Post by: Del Boy on 04 February 2010, 22:23:08
Right SAAB didn't go on ebay, went to £7850, now the bloke who bidded 7750 messaged me and said I'll give you £7750 tomorrow cash, I want £8000 he's been on all week about the car he said he'd give £8000 the other day but said he'd seen another car. Do I hang out for the £8000 as thats the least I want to take really?

If you were selling it privately for £8000 I expect you would get a similar offer from a buyer and be expected to do a deal.....
I guess it depends on, if you need to sell it quickly or take a gamble and hold out... :)

And if taking that offer will leave you seriously out of pocket or in profit ;) ;) ;)

I wanted 8500 to start with went to 8000, now he wants 7750 he's clearly very interested. I don't want to lose the sale but I have dropped 500 quid already.

Suppose its down to your haggling skills and how badly you want to exchance the car for cash.   :-/

If he wants it badly enough he'll find another £250.

A few years back I was selling my Audi S2 on Ebay. I wanted £3000 for it but set the reserve at £2750. I had one buyer who bid from the first couple of hours it went on. When it had 3 days left it hit the reserve. He emailed me and said as it had hit the reserve would I sell it to him at that price, if I wouldn't he would subtract all his bids.
Normally I would have told him to take a hike but the tax and insurance were both due within 6 days and I couldn't take the risk of it not selling, so I done the deal.

Even today I wonder what I could have got for that car had I let it run its course, but fair do's to the bloke, he drove down from Leeds (to Hemel) and picked it up as arranged and you could see how excited he was. Kinda made me feel like i'd done the right thing.

If it was me mate, if he didn't come up with the cash, then he's not that serious.

Stick to your guns and stick at 8k.

Sounds like you have done the right thing, especially if you have already come down £500 - it's a stunning example and your not hiding anything so just hang in there and a genuine buyer will have your hand off :)

Exactly

He's calling your bluff, just tell him to come and look and bring 8K cash.  he will end up driving it home.
