I do like classical, have it on during the night runs home, much more relaxing. Although some nights do call for a bit of the Kaisers.  ;D

Very nice to listen too. :y
I experienced some of what I would call really proper music at the O2 last night, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck in concert - absolutely superb. 8-) :)

The unofficial 'anthem' of England from the poem written by William Blake. A tribute to the generations that have gone before us to preserve that 'green and pleasant land' for 'England & St. George!'
breaked now though bloody shame :(

I'm glad someone else mentioned classical music.
Been a big fan since I was 13-when the old man (Dad) took me to de Monfort hall in Leicester a few times, saw (Sir) John Barbirolli and a few others.
I've been dying to ask, anyone tried listening to Bruckner?
I'm 64 now and Ive listened to just about everything but never Bruckner, till now.
Was he schizophrenic or something??

His Symphonies sound as if if he dropped all his music sheets and picked them up in the wrong order.
I'm still struggling to wrap my head around his Symphonies, but they sound as if my system keeps changing tracks.

Give No.5 a try and you'll see what I mean.

By the way I also 'dig' Led Zeppelin,Pink floyd,pearl jam,Lynard skynard,Hawkwind etc.

Only ever liked one of their tracks, 'links' or what ever it is, one with all the ants in the music video, still had to be in the right mood though, bit hard-core for my liking  :y

Try no. 4 - that's 'proper' music.

Never saw Barbirolli live, but he was a truly great man - never missed a televised or radio concert if I could help it.

A truly cultured person will not think of Mickey Mouse when listening to "The Sorcerers Apprentice"!  :D

...or The Lone Ranger on "William Tell Overture"  ;D

I think you will find the words 'Dumb Fu**er,Dumb Fu**er,Dumb Fu**er' will fit the very repetative beat, along with 'no,no,n-n-no,there's no lyrics' or my favourite 'techno, techno tech no notice' ;D

I feel that some of the louder composers of years ago would have been involved in rock music if they were around today.

There are quite a few parallels - eg premium on musicianship

Kinda agree, but not many "Old Skool Doods" such as Beet Oven, Bark and Ripme Corsetsov used 4/4, 8/4 16/4 or 32/4 time signatures much!

Maybe Jazz is a better comparison, as it's more syncopated and "unruly" (the very defintion of Jazz, I guess) and played by very talented musicians. ;)

As much as I love rock and metal, I have to doff my cap to Jazz musos. 8-)

Jazz - niiiice! ;D
