Title: started something
Post by: moggy on 17 February 2010, 12:42:37
I wish i hadn't,can any of you guys and girls help.I have a Hotpoint ew21c fan oven and the element for the oven is broken. So i looked on the Internet for a replacement,no problem there. It also gave instructions on how to replace it,now my problem is i am trying to remove the back cover inside the oven. But i cant seem to work out weather they are screws or rivets,i have tried several bits in my tool box.Do i have to remove the side panels,or do i need a special tool.Maybe it cant be done please help as at the moment, being out of work i cant afford a new cooker. All suggestions greatly appreciated :-[

Screws and rivets are nothing alike Moggy.. I would leave it to someone who knows what they are doing else you could be visiting "Him Upstairs" quicker than you think ;D

Quite often the Hotpoints use an alan key inserted into the centre of the screw...

Can you ring up the people who supplied the part?

Is it one of these?

If so does it not unscrew from the inside and come out with the wires on spade connectors?

Stupid rather thing,it seems there are 4 screws. But the bottom 2 are Philips got them out ok,the top 2 are some sort of torx square heads and wont budge.Maybe hotpoint don't want you to replace things yourself,so that you use there engineers at break knows what price.Any other suggestions welcome :-/ :(

Sound like the security screws I came across on the MAF in my alfa. I ended up filing bits off the side and grabbing them with mole grips.
