The EML is still on, on the HDi, it's misfiring under load, with intermittent severity. Sometimes hardly noticable, sometimes practically running on 3.
My ELM 327 will not connect to get the codes, despite the car being OBDII compliant. Probably a cheap nasty lead if anything - laptop won't even "connect to interface" Despite serial port settings being correct.
There is also a nice injector knock at lower revs under load.
Strangely - no black smoke which I would expect if an injector was failing.
I would imagine there is good boost pressure etc - it makes a nice subtle whistle when you put the boot down..
It's no good second guessing the fault without reading the codes and looking at live data...
Phone call with pug today:
Me: "Hi, can I arrange to bring my 406 HDi in please. I would like the codes in the Engine ECU read, and a live data check".
Them: "Certainly sir, but I don't know what you are asking for"
Me: "You should have equipment you can connect to the car for reading stored faults".
Them: "Ah you want a diagnostic printout. Those are £57 sir".
Me: "Erm, ok - can you confirm the technician will discuss the fault with me and look at the live data in realtime to get a reliable indication of what's going on?"
Them:" Let me go and check sir". "Yes, he says he can do a *diagnostic check*."
Me: "Sigh, Ok, when can I come in"
Them: "What model is your car, sir".
Me: "It's a 406 2.0 HDi"
Them: "Is that a petrol or a diesel"?

Should I really trust the fault with these clowns?
All I need is to talk to the ECU... my local garage say they can do it, but their bosch wireless thingy wasn't working last night :(

James have you tried with a generic code reader? I'm sure my Sealey VS8700 would read and clear the codes. It has limited live data capabilities as well. Let me know if you wanna save £57 ;) ;D ;D

James ... no idea what the maxscan reads on a diesel doing live data .. but you are in the swidnod area you are welcome to try it !!

I have come to the conclusion that my car is either
A) Not EOBD/ODBII compliant, or
B) The Diag port is shagged
Because the sealey won't work either - it doesn't even power up :'( :'( :'(
I really am going to have to go get shafted by a dealer, aren't I? :-[

my reader wont do citroen or peugeot turns out theyve got there own software bl**dy french!

It may explain a few things, can't remember if any of those protocols are on the Sealey.
