Title: Toilet fittings
Post by: Jimbob on 15 March 2010, 11:59:51
Our toilet flush is playing up, syphon not great, inlet valve has gone noisy, so the whole innards needs replacing.

Been looking at the newer 'flapper' style systems -  Fluidmaster / torbeck.

anyone got much experience of em?

Got a fluidmaster fitted here, absolutely love it. A little push button and whoosh, 7 litres at force. Been fitted about 3 years now and still fine.

All my bogs are now push button....and work very well.

Is your inlet a side or bottom inlet?

I work for Screwfix and the second option you have highlighted is very popular as an aftermarket 'upgrade' when the previous system has failed. :y

cheers.

We are gonna go for the button kit, that's a good idea.

not sure whether to go for the newer flapper style with the one push option, or the syphonny type dual flush.

Yes, its a system that has a piston type setup with a rubber seal....so press short flush and it flushes for as long as you press it, press long flush and it flushes a set volume which is set via the float which you can see around the central column.

cool, sounds good, and a good price, think thats decision made.

I gather some of the flapper type are sensitive to dirt in the tank, are they cistern block compatible do you know?

The type I listed will be ebtter as it has some additional surround to keep the blcoks away from the valve seat.....a standard flapper would be more prone to issues I would say!

Went for that design as it seemed more robust and weighty, plus had a 10 year guarantee, and I didnt like the square button of the fluidmaster type.  your link looked much neater  :y

Cheers

What size is the "push button" thingy ??? The hole where the present handle spindle goes through don't look very big to me ...   :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
Title: Re: Toilet fittings
Post by: Jimbob on 15 March 2010, 18:37:35
the push button is about 1.25" diameter, will stick out about 1"

the bit that goes through the hole is about 1/2" so shouldnt be a problem

guess it would 'flush' mount (  ;D ;D ;D ) on some of the newer cisterns
