Well, the third parties insurers phoned today, and they are coming to collect it tomorrow, even though they havent admitted liability yet ::),so still might be quite a few weeks yet :(.One other thing is,i still have the bumper in the shed,my question is,should i let them have it or tell em i had to scrap it,because it was no good. :-/

A 3rd party insurer collecting your car?
Sounds a bit fishy to me. Remember, while you have your car, the cards are in your hand. What is the history behind this?

Sorry kevin, got that a bit wrong, its actually the third parties insurers accident repair centre who are collecting it,and been told i have to let them take it or everything will come to an end,and wont claim anything. :-/

Still sounds fishy. Are your insurers involved? Do you have a legal advice line you could call?
Sounds to me like the 3rd party insurers know they are liable and are trying to fix it on the cheap whereas your insurer should be fixing the car at a repairer agreed with you, and then claiming costs from the 3rd party. IMHO. Not that I'm an expert.

Well whatever they are upto,if the car aint right it will keep going back until it is,but at least it will only be a couple of miles down the road, and i have been assured i wont incurr any storage costs. And what do you lot reckon about the bumper, should i tell em i dont have it,or be truthful and tell em its in the shed. :-X

It was the 3rd party insurers repair agent that initially made contact with me whe they said they were collecting SWMBO's Astra when it got hit last year. I just told them they weren't collecting it & I was taking it to 'my' garage for repair estimates/assessment.
I'd be on the phone to my insurers to find out what was happening. Remember that you can (in most cases - 'My' garage said that it's becoming a clause in policies these day where it's written in the small print, that the ins company hold the upper hand with regard to the repair centre) take your car to where YOU want for repairs not where an isurance company tells/requests you to

Remind us ...... what's the story re the bumper :-/ ;)

A knew bumper is expensive, that might make it "uneconomical to repair" and they could call it a right off. Obviously depending on the amount of damge to your car!

Basically andy, the lorry took my bumper off,and i just picked it up and put it in my shed with the corner dented in,but now the dent seems to have popped out itself, but if i tell them, they will probably repaint that one and not replace it with new,so could i just tell them that i took it down the tip,or would that throw a spanner in the works or something. :-/

I agree....my cars always goto one of the most expensive repairers in Swindon, when i'm not at fault, mainly coz they do a bloody good job, its your call where it goes to get fixed :y
Also remember you are entitled for like for like replacement whilst its being repaired :y

I suppose it all depends on how much you want your car back on the road or written off. Sometimes it pays to negotiate with the insurance companies if you drive an old-ish car that's worth bugger all (cash wise) If the difference is repair, replace with A N Other or a new £300 + (that's just the black bit for a prefacelift car - I priced it up for mine) front bumper, that's your call :y

In addition, bear in mind that it will almost certainly be a condition of your insurance policy that you do not accept any settlement, or even make contact with, the 3rd party, without their permission.
They are pulling a fast one because they know they are at fault, and that if you get it repaired through your insurer they will add a handling charge to the costs, they may insist on a more expensive repairer, they may add the cost of a courtesy car, etc. etc.
Bear in mind that your contract is with your insurer, who will offer a warranty on repairs, etc. If you go down this route and something goes wrong, either the repair is not acceptable or there's a warranty issue a little further down the line, you will be on your own, IMHO.

Well p.j,i am driving around in a hire car at the moment, courtesy of drive assist,at third parties insurers expense obviously, and yes mate it will come back gleaming, cause if it dont,it will be straight back, and they better put an mv6 bumper back on,especially now i know they are still available. ;)
