Has anyone ever been on holiday with them?
They certainly look nice.
I don't know which parts of France are nice, or which the weather is best etc etc.....
-
Been on many sites that have eurocamp on them ... :)
France is a big and beautiful place ... what do you want to do ?? If you want sea and sand.. the Vendee coast, sea and rocks and fantastic food .. Brittany, Rivers and Chateauxs, and good food,... Loire Valley, fantastic mountains and rivers... Tarne Valley
and so it goes on .. and on .. and on .. :)
-
last time i went camping was in 1975 to yugoslavia. would love to go again but the kids dont fancy it

I ain't into sight seeing yet I'm afraid, so the nicer weather and swimming pools would suit us :y
Not sure to drive or get the ferry most of the way to cut some driving down :y

i think it would be nicer if you had someone to share the driving, if weather is good, nothing like going round mountains in the summer. we travelled to yugo by coach, scenery was fantastic

the wife keeps getting the brochures from eurocamp int post and im tempted to look into it and if anyones done it some feedback would be appreciated
-
My first and last experience of driving abroad was turning left in Majorca to find some clown on the wrong side of the road making me go up a grass verge ::) ;D
But what really finished my off was Mrs. Loo-knee asking the recieption guy "Where is a nice place to go?" he then pointed to a place on the map which was our next stop....... Driving up mountains on the wrong side of the road, with a million foot drops, gaps in tiny walls with bunches of flowers instead of stones ::) then a "Pap, Pap" ....a Bus flying around the blind corners that I thought was going to push us to our death :-?
We arrived in one piece to the most gorgeous place, where I prayed for my Mum to drive us back ;D ;D ;D

Most sites have pools these days, for decent weather, on the coast Southern Vendee - La Tranche Sur Mer or Les Sables D'Olonne
Inland .. anywhere south of the Loire really ... :)
Ferry wise .. my preferred crossing is Portsmouth - St Malo overnight .. then a nice drive down the west through Nantes (fantastic bridge over the Loire) keeping OFF the motorways ... French main roads are so good you don't need the boredom of motorways .. much more fun on the original roads IMHO

Have look on here Mr. Entwood see which ones you think :y

Looking at the France - southern vendee part of that site .. I've stayed in several of those towns
La Tranche ... Full of tourists .. and caters for them.. . gets a bit frustrating
St Julien des Landes ... really quiet, rural place (good bakery though!!) about 20 minute drive to the coast. we actually visited that site from where we were having made some friends in town .. huge site with just about everything you need.
St Jean Des Monts .. right by the coast, roads get a bit busy, lots of nice bars and restaurants
From any of those places it is an easy drive to one of the massive LeClerc hypermarkets for shopping, which is always cheaper than buying "on site"
That part of France is an easy trip down from St Malo in a day .. even with the 'van on the back .. so solo its no problem . :)

Driving in France is so much more pleasant than over here, purely because the traffic is much lighter and the roads are much better than ours these days. - IMHO.
Camp sites are generally good IMHO. If you're looking for chains of decent camp sites I can recommend Les Castells.
We stay at this one when we go to Le Mans and it's idyllic http://www.camping-castels.co.uk/camping-le-chateau-de-chanteloup-id253-id_camping9.html

We've stopped there .. it really is lovely .. and a good restaurant on site too !

We always went straight to the south coast where we believed you had the best chance of good weather. We as a family loved it, and so did the Mig, getting a fair chance to stretch its legs on the motorways! We always drove the whole way and went different routes, times, etc. The motorways are mainly toll, but not too expensive, and well worth it if you're going far as there is never too much traffic (just like UK!!??). Also the services are fantastic. Don't forget about a wee trip to Disney as well if you're passing. I haven't been now in two years but if there is anything I can help with, please let me know.
Good luck!
-
If you want to work out toll costs, timings, distances etc etc .. then via michelin allows you to many different routes .. and you can also do a fair bit of customising using the "other options" down on the left
http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/
this is a quick St Malo - St Jean de Monts .. no tolls/michelin recomended
3 hr 10 mins !!

We went with Keycamps last year for a week in Normandy.
Very reasonably priced, at £250 for the caravan for a week inc Dover-Calais ferry
Stayed at Cote De Nacre in Saint Aubin Sur Mer
Spent the whole week immersed in beautiful scenery, D Day history and fabulous French food and drink
Loved every minute of it, and if the Mrs hadnt insisted we go to her parents in Lodz, Poland this year we would be back at that same site again in Normandy
Highly, highly recommended.

Normandy/Brittany are both great places .. but the weather is a tad more "UK" like and variable - mind you .. the Vendee can be crap if there's a storm in the Bay of Biscay .. the further south you go the better the weather really ... Southern Vendee / Northern Bordeaux are a nice compromise on travel/weather
-
Really depends on how far you wish to drive. From Dover to Montpellier is a good days drive, and coming from NI, Stranraer to Dover is another good day. The trick is in the planning, overnight stops, etc, but thats half the fun. If you do go south a week won't be enough though.

Oh, yes, and the baker who delivers every morning - well, her pain au chocolat is to die for.
Owner is a total petrol head too, which makes it fun during Le Mans.

Take the car to the south of France most years (going again this summer). If you decide to go to the Cote d'Azur and need any info let me know. Best/cheapest ferry crossing is Norfolfk Line (this year £49 return for mig and 4 people) - this may not be best route if you are going to the west coast.
-
ps I suppose that it all depends on what you want from the holiday but you can usually do it independently much cheaper than Eurockeycamp etc
-
We used to go with a company called French Life, but they were bought over by Canvas and became very expensive. France is lovely though, and well worth at least one trip.
-
Never been to Eurocamp but i've driven over to France many times. Being tight I used to drive through the night to Portsmouth and get the early ferry to Cean, as soon as you get on the ferry get the wife to leggit upstairs and book a cabin which is about £20 for a 4 berth but you have to be quick, that way you can have a good (6hour)kip, kack and shower before you head off the other side.
-
I thought this was a german gay holiday thing, are you sure it's for families Daz? ::) ;D

Agreed about the weather :y
But don't be on the Med coast near the Spanish Border when the Mistral comes in ::) ::) (End of September normally)

Been to many places but never been to France. Its full of French people. ;) :D ;D ;D

Unlike Britain, which is full of foreigners eh.......?!?!?
One thing you can say about the French is that they arent afraid of standing up for themselves when they feel wronged by their Government.....
Unlike Brits......
:y

Fair point. :y.............but for a holiday destination in Europe I very much like the Greek Islands. Tbh I find most French people quite ignorant. Not saying they are all that way but just speaking as I have found.
My sister has an apartment in the south of France that I could go to any time, but Ive never been and have no great desire to go.

Has anyone ever been on holiday with them?
They certainly look nice.
I don't know which parts of France are nice, or which the weather is best etc etc.....
Have a look at Brittany Daz - around Carnac beside the Gulf of Morbihan is nice - good seafood, wine etc http://2009.eurocamp.co.uk/bookonline/searchResults.cfm?CFID=25399412&CFTOKEN=71285395

Try www.select-site.co.uk
very good.

We went on a Eurocamp last May in Northern France. We had a fab time. The area was well kept, it was on the grounds of a huge Chateau!!
The staff were helpful and the accomodation really nice.
Will probably go again, but take our newly acquired caravan and my trusty MIG! :)

Used to go here, long drive though.
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g196598-d284176-Reviews-Camping_Le_Soleil-Argeles_sur_Mer_Languedoc_Roussillon.html
Canvas Holidays use it, Eurocamp near there.
Then found the camp site near Cambrils Spain better & cheaper.
