Just thought I would post this Thread to see if it helps anyone.
As some of you know I have had heart problems and apparently Obstructive Sleep Apnea could have been the cause :-?
I have always been able to go asleep anywhere at anytime, not really thinking anything was wrong with that, but apparently when asleep I stop breathing according to Mrs Loo-knee. She watched that Embarrassing Illnesses on the TV and made an appointment for me to go to the Doctors.
The Doctor forwarded me to an appointment at the Hospital.
I had to bring home equipment to wear whilst asleep, which when I returned they looked at what had been recorded. I then had to go back for another recorder which had electrodes, on my ankles, wrists, fingers, chest and stomach.
This showed that i stopped breathing 146 times per night which was nearly every 2 minutes for a duration of up to 59 seconds :-? My heart would then beat like running a marathon to compensate.
So I have just come back from the Hospital with a machine with a mask ( so I am more like Vader than I realised ;D) that I have to wear whilst sleeping. According to what I have been told I should feel totally different in the morning as I only stay in phase 1 sleep (as I am waking up 146 times when I gasp for air) instead of a deep sleep phase 4...
You maybe laughing by this stage I would to being honest, but I though I would post it just incase it could help anyone else. The hospital have told me that this is a relitively new condition that has been found which some GP's don't even know about :-?

Mrs. Loo-knee hopes it stops me from snoring ;D

I've suffered with it for years Darth, & it is a well known condition, though most GP's don't get to give a definitive diagnosis too often as patients tend to present with other conditions and don't elaborate on the breathing problem, merely saying, 'I don't sleep very well', or 'I'm always tired'. :-/

Sounds potentially nasty, Daz, but hopefully caught before any ill effects. :y
Let's hope, once they've had the Tech 2 out and read the live data, there'll be an easy solution. ;)
All the best, mate.

Daz, just sent you a PM.
I have had obstructive sleep apnoea for over 12 months and have had the CPAP machine for all of that time (I stop breathing once every 30 seconds) :o :o
It is really effective treatment and it does stop me snoring!
Word of advice - make sure you tell DVLA and your insurance company. As long as you are on CPAP then DVLA don't mind you keeping your licence. :y

I have just been told the same by the Nurse but have to wait 21 days until I get the results :-?

Sorry..........I have this image in my head that won't go...............(breathes deeply)
"sleep is not needed, young skywalker.........breathe, and inhale the darkside!!!"
Sorry Daz, couldn't resist it!
hope you are ok.

Persons who sleep alone without a long-term human partner may not be told about their sleep disorder symptoms.
Not sure what Wikipedia are trying to say there. :o
Is there another symptom they are not telling us about?
;)

More common than people think, thing is they put up with the suffering and dont bother going to the doctor to find out if there is a problem.
My brother suffers the same, as soon as he relaxes it seems the problem starts, only really became aware of it when his girlfriend kept waking him up in the bath after time after time.
A mate of mine also was diagnosed the same a while back
Looking forward to the pics though Darth, lets face it, you have to live up to your title. ::)
On a serious note, hope all works out well and your wife gets a good nights sleep. :y

Friend of mine has the same problem, and since having the "forced air" system he has gone from strength to strength ..literaly ... no-one had realised just how poorly he was .. including him !!!
To say he is a "new man" would not be an understatement.
He is also a keen "tin-tenter", and this has not stopped him .. he has a 12 volt version for the 'van, and I've installed an "extra" leisure battery as insurance... he can go away to a non-electrics site for up to 5 days without any worries ..
It's not nice .. but once you know and get used to it .. then you can live life to the full .. :y :y :y
Take care young un :y :y :y :y

That explains it youth, your loonyness is due to lack of oxygen to the brain and your uglyness to lack of beauty sleep;D ;D

I hope they sort you out quick matey, but I also sincerely hope that the cure wont mean that you will be able to talk even more and sing even louder. :o :o :D ;D ;D
Pics of the vader suit are an absolute must, no if or buts.Should be the funniest thing ever. ::) :D ;D ;D

Not so sure about that, it has been around a long time, may not be recognised by GP's perhaps :-/ :-/
I know 2 16 year olds who use the machines at night, so it is not an age thing :y Mind both these boys are shall we say, rotund in their appearance.... :D :D :D
Hope it works out for you and that you are able to feel a new man....... ;D ;D ;D :y

Actually Guffer I did not snore plus I slept well too so fingers crossed everything will be fine, my side of the bed did not look like a nuke had gone off in it either so not as resless it would seem :)
-
Hope it works for you Daz, are we going to get a demo up at the lakes? :-/
-
Hi Daz,
Good luck with the machine. Did your Doc say that you don't fit the "usual" profile of sufferers - i.e weight & age.
Regards
-
I've got it too - had it for several years. I hate my CPAP machine - I always feel I've had a better sleep when I've dropped off in front of the telly. And I've never found a comfortable mask either. Its partly to do with the moustache - makes the bl**dy thing leak air in all directions. And using it in an unheated bedroom - wife insists she can't sleep with heating on - tends to give me bronchitis.
And the b*st*rd doctor who diagnosed it took sadistic pleasure in telling me that I'd neve drive again. Absolute b*ll*cks - tell the DVLA that youve got the CPAP and they couldn't care less.
