This is what you want. http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht565-170pce-titanium-coated-hss-dril

Expensive but a couple LPG conversions later and countless other jobs and they're still going strong, apart from a couple of breakages. ::)

27.6p per bit and a free case chucked.

TB will never treat you to that after breaking all your other bits. ::)

actually just thinking, way back in the days of doing my apprenticeship and all the tools I bought.

I have a tin box set of .5mm to 6mm and 6.1 to 10mm.  Then 1/64 or 1/32 up to 1/2" and not a drill bit missing, allways replaced them if the broke.

For drilling bigger tham 6mm I allways used to use a lathe centre drill to start the hole off and my centre pop's aprt from the standard and auto ones were actually diesel injector needles.  I got a few from various different injecters to practice reconditioning them and tried to blunt them to re do them and found they didnt really blunt.  Still in my tool box to this day.

I have this kit as it came free with my drill when I bought it.

I would rate the drill bits as middle of the road.....certainly much better than the cheap standard stuff, but certainly the HSS bits are not upto the Dewalt quality which I have now settled on.

And Kevin, I also have a set of those Machine Mart bits and I rate them on a par with the Makita ones Tunnie is listing.

My recommendation would be, go for the Makita set and when you break a drill, replace it with dewalt (or equivalent) ones  :y

I like Kevin Wood's set, just purely down to numbers.  Seem to be OK, certainly better than the tosh&decker ones from the chain hardware/gardening places, and million times better than the cheapo clarke ones I was using on my exhaust ;D
