Left some friggin petrol in it last autumn, opps.
Strimmer didn't quite make it round the edges before the battery died. Not sure I've charged it for a year ;D
When the lawnmower has cooled, suppose I should check the plug, clean the filter, and pop some fresh oil in it. I don't have a bench grinder, so can't sharpen the blade up a bit...
-
ours is always left with petrol in it over winter, takes a while to start and runs at tad smokey ;D
-
Clean the breathers at the same.
Might be an idea to put a block of wood under the accelerator too. :D :D

doubt it has hydraulic lifters ;D

Is it wise for you to be anywhere near an internal combustion engine at the moment what with your track record? ::) ::)

Do a paperclip test - bet its crank sensor ;)

briggs and stratton, always starts second pull....chuck in shed and leave it, never an issue...although it had a gaskit membrane thing fail las year, but i was giving it some grief on a heavily weeded bed... ::)

Mines a Had On Never Drive Another.
Think the petrol had gone off a bit, ran better once it had been running for a few mins - smoked like a bitch when it initially started ;D

You should leave petrol in it.....well in the carb at least.....or else the seals will dry out and it'll be new or refurbish carb time :y

For the last 12 or so years, I've usually run it dry for winter storage :-/

Which is fine, these modern carbs on mowers only have a small bowl seal which should hardly ever see fuel anyway :y

;) The 'Deb`s Towers' mower has value-added features, which make it so easy to use: `even a human could use it! ::)

looks like my mower, but I cant get the moggie to oblige.....
-
Always have to use easy start, sprayed liberally into the carb at the start of every season. It starts first time on the lazy start key after that.
-
I,ve always left fuel in mine over winter, never had any probs.
before I start it up I always cleaned the plug and filter though.
if you have a one handed grinder you can sharpen the blade no problem and you dont need to take it off.

Lol, we had a mower like that last year at the heritage centre....that was until some bright spark blew half a tin in and when it fired it blew the cylidner head off!
Both my mowers (the good old Suffolk Punch and my Atco Balmoral with electric start) fired first pull again this year. :y
-
For those who think easy start is potent....here are a few stories relating to the use of Avpin.....which was the starting fuel for Lightnings and Hunters!

PMSL.....I remember Avpin well, we used it for a few things we should'nt in NI, lovely stuff!!

I want some of this Avpin stuff. Boy, could you have some fun with that. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Darlin.......you dont!
lots of fun stories about avpin, but lethal stuff in the wrong hands. One cupful in any fuel tank guarantees destruction of nearly any internal combustion engine, and can cause an explosion that will kill the driver.
BAD STUFF.

Might be usefull for shifting badly parked cars then. ::) (Into another village) ::) :-X
-
I note that the lack of AVPIN will be what grounds all the lightnings from flight (in south africa) and taxi runs here.....as nowhere on this earth will allow it to be manufactured anymore.....even India wont make it!
-
there was a rumour a couple of years ago that it was made in N Korea and Iran, but no-one would substantiate the fact at the time.
what do you think..........

VEry little grass now, almost all veg beds

Way to boring Martin, way to boring.
No man (or Debs) can have to many petrol mowers ;D ;D :y

Indeed. Or to look at it another way: If cutting the grass didn't involve tinkering with mechanical things and the combustion of petrol I'd never do it and the garden would be in a right state. ::)

Absolutely....hence I felt the need for 2 mowers....as a rotary just doesn't get the finish of a cylidner but a cylinder cant be used for every cut

Yes, that's about where I currently find myself. And the front garden's poxy and awkwardly-shaped so it's hardly worth lugging a cylinder mower round there unless I'm feeling really keen. ::)
I wouldn't be without the scarifying cassette for the cylinder mower though.

Hmm. :-/ Not normally as enthusiastic about 2 strokes. I'm thinking a flame thrower. ::)

I do worry about the sexuality of grown men using electric mowers, its simply not right.
I do use an electric (well, cordless) strimmer though - but always on the lookout for a petrol one ;D

If it doesn't deafen the neighbours, emit choking blue smoke and rev to five figure speeds it's showing a distinct feminine side. ;)
And as for being weedy enough to operate without a connection to the national grid.... ::)

Wouldn't a proper chainsaw be less "iPhonesque"?

My grandad used to have a suffolk punch that was like that. 2 Speeds: "Stopped" and "break! how do I stop this thing!" ;D

Remember that mains connected electric motors can be quite powerful and do full torque from stand still.
You could just about run 4bhp motor off 13 amps ;D ;D

Not quite....plus the ones used in such items are universal motors (quite simply series DC motors with thinner laminations and different brushes!)....so they rev their nuts off to get any torque in a small package.
You would struggle to get 4bhp OUTPUT off an electric motor off a 13A supply......plus, dont stall them ever or jam them or its bye bye comm (well it will be eventualy anyway!).

I only strim for about 2 mins, not worth messing with leads. Obviously, a nice 2 stroke strimmer would be much better. Wonder if I can rig something up with a GM V6 V5 ::)
