.....on the fate of my car.Been about three weeks now since they took it,and getting quite pissed off now, they say they are waiting for the insurers to get back,as they have already had the quote,so how long does it take to look at a quote and say carry on. >:(
-
We've been waiting 5 weeks since they took the car away, they also have all the docs too........no word whatsoever, and avoided on the phone and not phoned back.
By the way, its the Co-oP insurance............
Been told its a write off (as if that wasn't obvious cos the rear end is poor...) and offered a figure/accepted it.
Does it really take 5 wks to pay out???
Grrrr.
-
Its a total joke mate, can you see them waiting 5 weeks for your installment without cancelling it. ::)
-
It's very frustrating for you. Insurance companies behave as if they own the car which is not the case until they buy it from you (funds cleared into bank). I have become quite hard in dealing with them through experience and would not let them even have the car if I was intending to keep it. You pay the premiums and get treated very poorly sometimes.
I suggest you keep nagging them and threaten to bill them for the calls and any other inconveniences they are creating for you. Either way it will not be the quiet life you hoped for! :(

As I said in a previous thread, I've got nothing but praise for aviva. They had our car repaired and back within three weeks, and a courtesy car was no problem. This was in January, when they must have been really busy with the bad weather.
-
You need to put tihngs in writing and advise if they do not reply by a certain date you will take it to Ombudsman - I have done this several times (not for write offs though) and always got results.
Also if accident was the fault of another (traceable) party you should be getting hire car costs/ uninsured losses but you have to get the other party's insurers involved in this.
When my sons was rear ended a few years ago this was sorted out within a week and other party's insurers gave more than decent value on car. We would have been happy with £700 at the time and they gave us £950.
-
The stupid thing is...........
IF we were having it repaired, we would have got a courtesy car. Because it is a write off, there is no courtesy car, and the other insurance co. have admitted liability,so it SHOULD be straightforward, surely?
OK, there are 4 cases of whiplash and injuries sustained (ambulance callled to scene and taken to hospital) but those should be sorted out AFTER the car payment is done and dusted, can't see the problem.
-
As said ombudsman - tell insurance co you are going to hire car and will seek recovery of costs from them as the dealy is totally unreasonalbe unless of course there is a 6 week waiting time but that is only for theft as far as I know.
You need to get dialogue going with someone higher up - request an escalation to a manager. There must be an explanation for this. The other party should be liable for reasonable short term hire costs but this will not extend to 5 weeks after the event as it does not appear to be their fault that your owninsurance is not paying up

Y'know...........for an older car, its a bloody good ride, and lasts well too. Even though mine is a 3.0 V6, does 24-ish around town, and 30 on a run. Can't complain.

Not quite so bad .. but I got reversed into in Dec 09 ... it was repaired but I had to pay the first £350 ... my insurers are still arguing with his ... who say it's 50/50 as no witnesses. ... I might have reversed into him .....
I, and my insurers, are saying no as it is quite difficult to "reverse" into somone and hit them in this position...
