With the planned departure of ITV's The Bill it made me think of all the police / legal dramas there have been on TV over the years.
Going back to my younger days there was:
No Hiding Place
Maigret
Highway Patrol
Z Cars
Dixon of Dock Green
Softly Softly
Perry Mason
Crown Court
Now before I attempt to remember more, how many can you list? ;)
-
The Sweeney/ Van der Valk/ The Professionals.
-
Gentle touch, Juliet Bravo, Starsky and Hutch, Kojak
:)
-
jasper carrot and robert powell, the detectives. ;D ;D
-
i used to like hill street blues and chips.
-
Dixon Of Dock Green!!! Brilliant. I could never work out how George Dixon died in the movie (The Blue Lamp) and was resurrected for the tv series. Still Classic TV in my opinion.

Correct Steve, Pentonville, known locally as 'the ville'. Or the Queens Hotel Swansea, or Strangeways, you know the rest.

He did. Your eyes just got worse as he got older. ;D

Columbo gets my vote.
The plots and scripts were amazing.
We know who did it, to whom and most of the time how they did it right from the start....but the cleverness was watching Columbo work it out, most of the time finding out things way before we realise..AND we know who committed the crime for heavens sake..Pure genius script writing.

Dixon of Dock Green - Jack Warner played his role to perfection.
He was just as I remember our 'old school' coppers were when I was a small lad growing-up in the valleys. A few stern words in your ear, and no paperwork - and they didn't miss a trick either.
Respected figures in the locality, I can tell you!
