"tax cuts, whatever the social cost" - as usual
this is a startling (i personally dont know the area) report on David Camerons blueprint for change - its Hammersmith and Fulham and its tale since 2006 when the conservatives took over.
Cameron has stated he's "proud" of this councils record and Osbourne has decreed it a "model" for a tory government.
"In such a mixed area, the Conservatives had to run for power as a reconstructed party "at home with modern Britain". They promised to move beyond Thatcherism and make the poor better off. They were the first to hum the tune that David Cameron has been singing a capella in this election."
"People who took this at face value were startled by the first act of the Conservatives on assuming power – a crackdown on the homeless. They immediately sold off 12 homeless shelters, handing them to large property developers. The horrified charity Crisis was offered premises by the BBC to house the abandoned in a shelter over the Christmas period at least. The council refused permission."

While we are on the subject of the homeless - Andrew Neill has just been quizzing a Limpdem candidate about their leaflet distributed in Birmingham which apparently stated that they would let the homeless sleep out in the snow. She wouldnt answer him on the subject but quickly started talking about Labour election leaflets instead. ::)

i'd love to see this leaflet - sounds exactly like something the Limpdems would produce - I'm sure brillo pads facts are accurate :o

I am not very familiar with the area either, but if you read through the comments at the bottom of the article, Harryphibs - a local resident, seems to expose this as the ludicrously left wing biased journalistic claptrap that I would expect from the Indie. ;)

In the interest of accuracy I am as we speak doing a bit of research on it. I was told about it by someone in the room with me at the time, as I was watching/listening oofing/ at the same time- so I will report back asap. :y

no worries - yes the article is heavily biased (Hari is one of their more leftie writers) but it isn't complete hogwash, it makes interesting reading and maybe some some indication of the tories broad direction :o

Same old tories?......
Same old tories
Same old (and nu) Labia
Same old Lib Dems

As Max Bygraves used to say....Let me sell you a Tory..... ;D

I'm going to say it now, I'd rather have Labour in than Conservative, not who I voted for, either of them, but, I would rather have that outcome.
