I have noticed that their is a thick creamy deposit under the engine oil filler cap on my 2001 2.6 V6 Omega. Is this normal for the V6 Omega engine? I was wondering if the cure might be as simple as an oil and filter change. The car has done 132,000 miles, and I have no idea when the oil was last changed.
I am working my way through the car, having changed the cam belt and water pump this last week end.
Any help or advice would be appreciated :)

yes its resonably normal for v6 omegas, if they are doing short runs over winter.
A full oil change and filter change never harms specially if your unsure of when it was done last. best way to resolve it short term is blast 20-30 miles along a motorway or similar road :y

I would recommend oil and filter change (10w/40 semi synth), a dose of decent injection cleaner and an "exercising" of the engine into the upper ranges of the rev counter (as long as you have proof of cambelt kit changed recently!!)
Change oil and filter again in 200 miles, note condition of oil. If clear, change in 3-4k miles. If dirty change again in another 250 miles, and continue to do so until oil drains clean.
This is not an expensive process if you have access to a trade club card where 4x 5l of oil costs around £30 and filters are £1.20 ish each.

Thanks for the advice. I changed the cam belt myself this last week end using the locking kit kindly loaned by MDTM, so will try te oil and filter change this wek end and the "exercise" the motor. :y :y
