You choose...
I've just ordered my 4th ps3 - 3 confirmed already as being with me on launch date.
So am i the scum of the earth rogue or just a streetwise entrepeneur..... :-/
At the end of the day its business and its also the equation of supply and demand...we all need to make money if its legal i will put it on my radar.....
Hoping the 4 of them will pay for themselves and at approx £200 profit each will buy me one for free and a bit left over to go towards something else.....
So intrested in thoughts......am i bad or is this acceptable... :-/
Edit: aware this may be a contentious issue albeit legal.....so can take the flack if someone things me a wrong un ;)

I see no problem with it Mark. As the saying goes, you have to speculate to accumulate.
Would it be different if you bought 4 Bugatti Veyrons then sold 3 of them at a profit to pay for one, just because you could?
(I wish.... ;D )

Depends if you are giving one to me ;D
-
;D i wish too....
Got some real hostile looks from colleagues at work hence me asking....at the end of the day the pre order system is there for everyone to buy if they want. :y
-
Fine by me
Had a mate do it with Wii
Accidently as it happened, kids desperate for one, so he preordered a few.
His buyers, although paying a lot, still felt he was doing them the favour!
Make hay while the sun shines!

Only problem I forsee is if supply is greater than demand - No run up to Christmas this time.
You end up with more ps3 than you want.
Kept in perfect condition you should be able to return em though.
-
I say 'do it' Jock!
I used to work with a guy who had the foresight to do stuff like this. You wouldn't believe what he got up to!!! All strictly legit though!!. I was always very envious!! (And skint!!)
-
Supply & demand, why not.........
-
no problem with that, i would if i had the cash!! but at £425 per console from the store I cannot afford to buy them in the first place, but great idea.. they will be highly sort after :y

I beg your pardon?

Sounds like a double entendre to me.
My wife asked me to give her an example of a double entendre, so I gave her one.
-
I did the same with the PSP, by chance got my first one 4 days after release, sold it 2 weeks later and with the profit bought a second one, so in effect got a free PSP :)
If you think you can make money at it theres no reason not to, thats why we live in a land of free enterprise and not some communist hole in the arse end of nowhere :)
-
where are you pre-ordering from that are guaranteeing delivery for the release date????
-
My wife did it with the small Stella glass fronted fridges. She was looking on Ebay for two small fridges to hibernate the tortoises we have and noticed they were selling for anything upto £120. A few days later she went to Asda to do some christmas shopping and they had a deal on and where selling them for £50. My wife bought all their stock and had me do the rounds to Warrington and Chester. She made a good few bob which paid for christmas 8-)
-
I never have the money or the foresight to get involved in something like that, but if there's a few quid to be made I'll have to sharpen up!!
Markie - go for it pal, and good luck :y
Elite Pete - well done too, always handy to make a few extra bob at Christmas

Yes, we leave them to make the product in the first place........ ;D

Just as an aside Markie...
if you have to ask, or even contemplate whether or not you're a bad bad man... the answer is most probably that you're not.
those that are, either KNOW it, or it hasn't even occurred to them that there's a difference.
sleep easy pal.

The world is full of bad men Markie. On the whole, they seem to do rather well for themselves. ;)

Had thought doing same thing myself, but couldn't bring myself to buy Sony crap.
-
PS. Just off to have a look at Watchdog, see if you're on it you bad man ;D

As long as you share the pre-order link with us folks :y, then I don't see any problems with what you are doing, just jealousy if you ask me, re; funny looks at work :o :o ;D

I can still pre-order one or two today if I want, with a deposit of £100 on each. The reason I haven't is that I'm not convinced there's going to be that much demand for them. The price is high, it's not a particularly busy time of year, and they don't seem to be selling all that well in the US (note: ignore the number of *shipped* units, which includes those sitting on shop shelves). Also the fact there are still pre-orders available leads me to believe demand isn't brilliant.
They will sell out initially, and perhaps create a small premuim for used units, but I don't think we're going to see anything like the huge profits available for selling on X-Box 360s when they came out just before Christmas '05.

There is not the stress for parents to acquire one before Christamas etc.
Also, I believe Sony alienated a lot of loyal customers by admitting that the expensive ps2 emulator they have put in it for older games won't run many games...

Have you done this?
Any success?
I notice all the shops around here have stock, but don't know about where you are.

yeah but i wont be doing it again as it got a bit scarey - demand was never there like previous consols :o
Made about £210 selling 3 pre orders before launch. Didnt get my price for 4th one so i kept it.
Considoring what i made on the first 3 i managed to ( in real terms) grab myself one for £210. ;)

Fair play, not a bad result! :y

That's kinda what I expected... the demand in other markets wasn't great, and with the time of year for the Euro release I'm not surprised there's no great shortage. I think you done quite well to get as much as you did! If you'd waited until launch to capitalise then I expect you'd have made minimal, if any, profit as people realise they're quite freely available.
Now if you'd done that with the X-Box 360 or even the Nintendo Wii, you'd have made an absolute killing!
