Fantastic series!! :y I was a big fan of Life on Mars but this just got better as it went on, and yes.........Keeley Hawes! :-* :-* :-*
Gene Hunt is a very similar character to Jack Reegan in The Sweeney.

-
Loved the Uptown Girl skit ;D
Said it before and I'll say it again Gene in my hero ---- wish life could be like that again -- none of this namby pamby PC rubbish.
-
I've watched every episode. Don't know why - it's absolute rubbish, I haven't got a clue what's going on, and I don't have any sympathy for any of the characters.
Why is it called Ashes to Ashes? Would I understand it any better if I'd seen Life on Mars?
I've watched the first 3 episodes of Luther. Don't know why - it's absolute rubbish, I haven't got a clue what's going on, and I don't have any sympathy for any of the characters.

If i accidentally turn over to crapstenders, i press a button and i magically changes to another program :)

In the preview for tomorrows one it looks like the quattro gets smashed up >:( >:( >:(

why do you bother paying your licence fee??? why dont you just throw the telly out the window??? might be more interesting >:(

Can't understand the couple of people saying it's absolute rubbish. :-? Come on guys.......it's not REAL!!
It's just a very entertaining bit of escapism with some good characters. As always, we all have differing opinions but if you hate it that much I really don't understand why you watch it!! :-/

You are all missing the point I was trying to make. I watch a lot of television, and some of it is absolutely brilliant: The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Deadwood, True Blood, Dexter - all American, but absolutely outstanding.
Then there's all the stuff that's not quite so brilliant, but is good enough to be absolutely gripping: - Heroes (been going downhill since Season 1),
- The Vampire Diaries (improves as it goes along),
- Being Human (series 1 - brilliant, series 2 - OK),
- Doctor Who (David Tennant brilliant, Matt Smith - jury's still out),
- Outnumbered (current series dreadful),
- Poirot (mostly brilliant),
- Ashes to Ashes (see above),
- FlashForward (as for Ashes to Ashes),
- Luther (preposterous, but impressive acting)
Rubbish can be addictive - look how popular the soaps are. Just because I'm addicted to Ashes to Ashes doesn't mean I have to turn off my critical faculties! :) :) :)
-
Yep i`m looking forward to tonights episode.... ;D :y I`ve also been watching season 2 of Sons of Anarchy on Bravo good tv series that... :y :y

We were talking about this at work, I had them as all dead but in a train crash, based on the train in Life on Mars, living a life in 'wherever', a colleague got it just about spot on...... :y Watching the end, I did think that Gene would walk into the pub and that Alex would 'live' :) Wonder what Gene will make of the 'I Phone' leaves it open for a comeback perhaps.. :-/

Yep, you could be right, a bit of a twist, but a agree, not likely to be any more, but right to stop on a high.. :y

Absolutely none the wiser. :-/
It's words of one syllable time - would anybody care to do the honours?
Was there any significance in the fact that when somebody said "Oh God", Gene Hunt muttered "Don't call me that"?
Was there any significance in the fact that Jim Keating's lift was going down?
:-/ :-/ :-/

My take was that Gene was God's ambassador to the newly departed members of H.M Constabulary - - helping them cross over, so to speak. But he enjoyed the make believe world so much he was trying to hang on to them a little while longer --- especially Alex Drake.
Jim was the Devil's equivalent, trying to poach the souls for the Underworld.
In the end the present "team" passed on (the Pearly gates being a pub! ) and Alex popped her clogs in the "real world".
The guy with the i-phone was the next newly departed to pass through the "holding area".
As much as I enjoyed the programme, if, when I shift my mortal coil, I awake to see Gene's face I will not be best pleased ..... another crack at "life" doesn't appeal ..... where's me harp ::)
OMG -- just had a thought .... are WE all dead ex omega owners, brought to OOF to help us pass over ??? :o :o :o
TB is Gene Hunt !!!!!!!
P.S. I hope that Audi was a mock up :'(

Indeed! There is a belief that suggests we first go to a plain of existence after death where we can redeem ourselves, or not, before taking the final journey to heaven or hell.
As I stated before, this last episode was particularly thought provoking! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Thanks H C......so was it Gene that killed Sam as bolly was banging on about?
No -- Sam was a complicated case in that he was near death in the "real" world and therefore being helped to pass over by Gene. However, he actually recovered and returned to the "real" world ..... decided he didn't like it and threw himself off a roof. Therefore he died in reality and re-entered Gene's world (the waiting room for the afterlife). Once he had spent some time there ( off screen) he accepted his death and passed on to "heaven" (?) via the pearly pub. So technically Gene didn't kill him, but helped him pass on (a result of which he mysteriously disappeared from Gene's world).
Clear as proverbial mud !!!!

Same here, now its all explained and the 90's is not too far away from present, so very much doubt they will do another one

I did read somewhere that season 3 was the last one to be made....but after watching it, it has been left open for a season 4....
Now Lost thats another story!!!!!!!!!

i also heard philip glenister in an interview on the radio saying that there wont be another series, but , should they leave it at that on a high/sad note ,or , have another series as theres enough interest and viewers . id love another series.well worth my licence fee !!!!!!!!
-
Much as I'd like another series I think they should leave it as is ... on the high note. Too many series try to drag on and on and, in so doing, become stale and generally unwatchable.
Mind you -- there is always scope for a spin off, along the lines of the Sweeney :y
-
I could be in that situation now (not quite passed over) & all you lot could be figments of my imagination.
I'm ashamed, if you lot is the best i can do :-[ ;D

you could be right , after all , it was ME who made the voices do it ...... ::) :D

Agreed, would love to see some more, but perhaps best left on a high, we know the plot now, so, although left in a way they could do another, I think best to let go now... :)..... :( :(
