Okay having a final beer before work starts.
Taken Thursday and Friday off work and added to the weekend gives me 4 days to get the veccy fixed.
Had it 4 months bought as a non runner - suspect oil cooler and all that goes with it.
In between striping a 2.5 cdx, a rover turbo, preparing my track car and fixing a megane steering rack i have toyed with this.
Problems - as always - removing oil pipes from cooler - untill Mark DTM advised the best way.
Problems removing the dam over tight oil filter cannister....dremeled it off.
Over the next 4 days my aim is to be in a situation where i can turn the key and attemp to fire her up ( an 02 2.6 sri v6 manual estate)
So shes sitting in the garage ready to rebuild. Currently stripped down to oil cooler and yes its a seriously well gone oil cooler at that.
Got my new cooler, new radiator, coolant tank and hoses, thermostat and housing, sealant, water pump and all associated seals and bolts etc. Also got copious amounts of vx oil and Anti freeze, tea & coffee a swear box and our very own Hotel21`s e10 torx ( thanks Broocie)
So wish me luck and lets hope its a productive 4 days :y

Good luck m8 :y
Let us know how it compares to the Omega! Seen some possible Veccy oil cooler projects myself :)

Same engine Tunnie - thermostat, water pump and oil cooler are exactly same part number as the v6 omegas.
Set out at a different angle and less space to work thats about it :y

Good luck with it, if you need any help give me a shout. I expect I'll be working on my Omega on Saturday weather permitting, but as the garage at my folks' place is too full of junk (and my R1 for the moment) to get the car in, the first sign of rain will see that idea called off leaving me available. Although you may well be finished and driving around in it by then ;)

Cool cool... don't be expecting any technical knowledge, well certainly not in the practical sense, although I'm sure you've got that side covered. But if you need a spare pair of hands, I know how some jobs can be 10 times harder working alone.

thanks for the comments guys :)
this all seems to easy so far - makes me think ive done something wrong or theres a massive problem about to emerge :-/
T break time and the oil cooler and thermostat / radiator and associated hoses etc all on.
Copper sealed all the bolts and greased ( lightly) new rubber seals where applicable. Nuts and bolts all torqued up to their respective 20 / 30nm and sealant doing its stuff
Now onto those pesky oil pipes - anyone have an opinion on the best way to line them up ? ie connect at block first or connect at oil cooler first?
-
Screw them loosely into the block, then fit at top end and finaly tighten the block end....

done :y that was surprisingly easy compared to removing them, even the main (hollow) bolts felt nice going in...torqued and still in one piece too
-
Re-assembly is a doddle........as a rule...should be running this pm then (with no coolant in it to start with....)

Had to stop for the after school pick up :-/ dont think it will be going tonight...or will it....
my dilemma is the water pump - can i even sneakily turn it over to see it starts then move on to the water pump?
or should i wait and do it all before turning over?
-
oooooooh it was all going so well - but about 5 minutes ago - just 30 seconds no doubt after vx shut i snaped one of the hollow bolts for colant bridege.
Now ive checked and it was'nt over tight - set to exactly the correct torque....so i have tightened the other on to 5nm less as i dont want to do the same again... :-/

All those bolts in that area seam to snap very easily >:(
I snapped the hollow bolt to the oil cooler on TB1..... TB was not amused!
If i attempt an oil cooler again, I will buy brand new bolts for the oil cooler and bridge. Does not look like they like being re-used!
Got enough thread on it Markie to get it back out?

refitting oil filter etc etc and topping with oil and i will get 4 brand new bolts tomorrow.....its the only small glitch i have had so far ;)

Thats good going :y
Looking forward to getting stuck into a project like that again, although most of the VeccyB V6's seam to be the 2.6 I find...

Well done Markie. A good days work :y

Been there. I was surprised gadget hands tunnie had the strength to shear it, but I guess he had eaten 3 shredded wheat that day.

Sounds like you'll easily be finished before Saturday then... well done!

Its not going to be done today :(
The vx dealer fiasco strikes again. NONE of them carry the banjo bolts that easily snap!
Not sure if its the same through the rest of the country but here in west/ central Scotland all the vx dealers are Arnold Clark, Evans H, or Reg Vardy. And none carry them as stock as an estimate. Actually fair play to the dealer in East Kilbrie ( 15miles away) as he has sourced 2 in the Kilmarnock Reg Vardy ( 80 miles away) and is getting them sent up :o
So possibly tomorrow and potentially Monday when i am back at work...best offer outwith that was " all being well...Tuesday"
Still theres other things i can be doing to it i guess...needds must...i really dont fancy taking that cam cover off to get to water pump......in fact bottom of air filter box is gonna have to come off first....
I can also build the rest of it back up as ive taken two bolts from the coolant bridge. So its back on with fuel rail and that air intake system etc. May also give the brakes a clean up as well.
