Title: Last day in the office today
Post by: Jimbob on 04 June 2010, 07:40:59
Bit sad really, we are being moved offices today.

Currently sat 5 minutues walk from the middle of town, on a big campus holding thousands, good onsite facilities, gym etc.  Worked here for 15 years!

They are moving us 5 miles out of town, to a site that holds 300, and obviously the facilities to match.

A lot of little downsides, like cant go into town every lunch for shopping, or something to eat etc,  will be stuck out on a business park with nothing for miles.

As for travelling, it is only .3 of a mile difference for me, but its putting a lot of people out big sytle who use public transport.

Ahh well, least its a job.

8-) Change can be good too.....in three months you`ll be wondering why it hadn`t happened sooner! ;)

....on the up side; you`ll soon be cruising to work in that burgundy-beauty! :y

I know the feeling, last place I worked at was in the middle of nowhere, lunch time you didn't feel like you were taking a break.

Yes, its a much more modern building, better aircon etc

There is a lake I can walk round at lunch, but I like going up town daily, pop into wilko's for something, buy a nice lunch, sort upcoming birthdays etc.  Gonna make some things a lot more awkward.

I often use the onsite gym before work, that may not be possible now.

As an old irish man once said to me many years ago when I was commenting on the 1920's building we were working in.

'Mark, I have been an engineer for a very long time and I will tell you this, if you ever move to a new building be very afraid'

and he was very right!

your not wrong, been the start of a slippery slope in your case  :'(

We purpose build this new place about 10 years ago as a training centre, and its had various uses since.

On the bright side, they could have relocated me MUCH further away.

There is a possibility we will move back in a few years, but I suspect that is unlikely.
