Ahh, eclipse - I remember ours a few years back now, drove overnight to Newquay and slept in the car overnight. The day of the eclipse there was virtually unbroken cloud on Fistral Beach and everyone thought their chances of seeing it had been scuppered. Then just as the moon completed its pass in front of the sun, the clouds parted as if by magic and there was the ring of fire plain as day. It went dark and the temperature dropped significantly, one of the finest sights I'll ever see. And the 'diamond ring' effect that you see on the telly as the sun emerges again is so much more spectacular in real life, certainly worth travelling for the chance to see

Worth the risk IMO. But also worth loads of piss taking if he misses it.  ;D
