from what i remember a chunk of metal of an American DC10 fell of, Concords tyres ran over it, shredded them, and through metal and rubber up against the wings which caused the fire....

Which was all hushed up to avoid annoying the Americans  ::)

BA also put every serviceable part  beyond repair once they had finished with them, i hear there is a plan to get an air-france one back in the air  :y

I must admit that is one plane I would loved to have a flight in :(
Shame I could not afforded at the time, still looks futuristic and well before its time to me :)

I pay a visit to alpha alpha  at east fortune every summer  she is a lovely old bird  shame you can see the scars where they clipped her wings.

my plan is to visit all all 10 uk built concordes before i die   :y

Useful one that!

Went to put it on the record list to find that the PVR had thrown away all the digital channels and thus the series-linked record list.  Just managed to re-instate from memory (mine) and add Concorde.

Don't buy LG if you can help it >:(

Any of you ever go to Duxford toe the abs general weekend? then the original prototype concorde is there and you can walk around and in it well worth a visit!!
and to see the "state of the art computers installed in it" lol

Telly not on Steve but i've always loved Concorde. Once when i was 8 or 9 my Dad bought me home a desktop pen holder type thing with a hude Concorde. I kept it on my bedroom windowsill & parked my favourite diecast cars round it (which i still collect)....my anorak hobby! :D

Fabulous programme, Concorde still looks great, even today

Never forget seeing her with the Red Arrows, at Leicester Airshow around 1984, sadly a sight we will never see again........

I really do hate with a passion BA, they way they treated Virgin Atlantic in the early years, and their refusal to sell them to Virgin.  >:(

They went before their time  :'(

Branson was using concorde as an excuse to have a pop at BA as usual
he wanted to buy the planes for a pound as he claimed thats what BA paid for them
he would fly them for a year and then retire them with a virgin atlantic livery

the retired planes still serve BA well as there logo is up the side of them

Do agree he jumped at PR experience, however i feel he would have operated them at a loss for a considerable time. As that program said, they had 1/4 of the air time as some jumbos so had plenty of life left in them. He would have run them until better times

I felt strangely deflated after watching the programme. I've come to the conclusion that I don't much like today's world and I wish it was the 70's again. Age thing, obviously. :(

Welcome to the world we have allowed to be created for us; risk averse, micro-managed and assured of our indifference.....let`s all hold hands and sleepwalk towards our new 'world of leisure'.
Where citizens only spectate when those of us whom still can; "do something", so they may text to their fellow gawkers: "I wuz there!" >:(

IMHO Mr Branson would have run them at a loss, if only for the kudos he would have gained for being the only Concorde operator, and the "British" thing that puts two fingers up to all the other airline operators too.

On the flipside, the operational costs of these beautiful planes is nearly double of an Airbus A380, so for how long Concorde would have flown afterwards is a debateable point because of Branson's financial position at that time.

There is not now, and will not be for the foreseable future ANY aircraft that does what Concorde did, at the time it did it, over the distance it did it, with the obvious affection it still has for such a fantastically beautiful aeroplane that looks as good today, as when it was first introduced as "Concorde 001" and coming from Bristol, quite near to Filton where she was concieved and first flown from,AND where she is still today........I am still convinced it was ahead of its time, and still a viable aircraft.

Twas just my mood at the time Z. I think it was the elation of being 'lost' in the fantastic world of supersonic flight, and all the brilliant innovation that went into the aircraft, only to brought down to earth (pardon that one) by newsnight.
