Title: Nightmare day for my daughter and me
Post by: Martin_1962 on 07 July 2010, 23:06:59
Started about 15:15 with a call from my wife.

My daughter was at a horse riding experience with her school. The bus back to school arrived 1 hour early, then had an argument with the teachers - lots of shouting.

They finished their horses, the driver waited to 15:15 (the correct time) then when the school party walked towards the bus he drove off.

First thing was I may have to collect my daughter from there, but another local company got a bus there 20 minutes later.

This seemed better, my daughter got back to school then went to the bus stop to wait for the bus home.  The scummy git in the service bus drove past the bus stop and didn't pick up any passengers.

My daughter was now in tears.

Anyway we decided stuff it, I will pick her up after work so she went back to school.

My trip home - slow gits for first few miles - 4 dealt with on the only overtaking straight. Then a tractor and trailer with metalwork on it - including a few long sections hanging about 8 foot off the end (no markers on them), but first 4 more vehicles.

The tractor passed at least two good pull in areas to let the queue past. the van and three cars just sat behind it, so I overtook them at the first safe place, got behind the selfish person and overtook them at the next spot.

All was fine until I got near Worcester and a slowy pulled out in front of me and heal me up.

Worcester - currently having large amounts of trees ripped up to be bus laned.

To school and then to home. Why do so many people now drive around 20 rather than the old 31 on the clock we all used to do years ago.

As to the school bus. A certain company with the same name as a Birminghamshire town beginning with D has now lost a big contract.

We think the driver may have been biased against the school (a class thing).

The local bus company with a compressed carbon name is investigating.

Is that not always the case, a couple of weeks ago I got a call from school, the childminder had not picked her up (a communication fault) so I left work and hit every slow driver and a tractor, took me longer than when leaving at normal time..... ::) ::) ::)

That is what we all think.

Had a keyfob in - too scared to touch it - also had to pick another from sorting office.

Anyway after tea I thought I would go on games.

Up speed was bad so rebooted the router, 20 minutes later still no router.

Called BT - waste of effing time so rebooted router a few times, waved a hammer at it (BT Homehub was going to die) but shock horror it worked!

THEN

relogged into PSN but UC2 could not resync :'( :'( >:( >:(.

Thought I would check Naughty Dog web site - down.

So no multiplayer for me to unwind. :'( :'(

Started on the cider and did single player for 40 minutes.

How many more things can go wrong!!!!

Exactly

I can do work to home in as little as 12 minutes but usually just over 20.

The school bit usually adds 20 minutes on each day dropping off madam, at least tomorrow is the last day of term.

School is 2 miles from us just north of the town centre

I was very surprised at what happened.

I think there will be some words said between the school and the bus operator.

As you know we have a lot of small private operators, Cathedral, Commandery, Dudley, amongst others, and usually the service is good.

BTW do you remember Swanbrook from Gloucester/Cheltenham?

There is a definate opinion that it was a driver problem not a company problem.

Yes indeed .......
IIRC they ran some former Derby/Blue Bus AEC Reliance 760s in the late '80s.
 :D

Hope that this debacle gets sorted pronto, as per our PMs.

All come out now, the school forgot to order the coach for Wednesday >:(, the teachers did not know. ::)

The driver had to leave to do his school run.

Only issue then was the arguing betwwen two groups not in fulll knowleage of what happened.

And the company we thought was the problem called another company to get the coach.

Basically no issues with any of the small local operators. :y :y

Pleased to hear this Martin, I know some operators cut things very close to the bone at this time of year due to these few weeks being manic for the operators with all schools trying to organise their trips before school break up.

I  know from experience that the operators expect the drivers to be in two places at once to return school trips and complete contract runs and sometimes things do get a little hot under the collar when school parties try to stretch their visit out as long as possible so the teachers don't have to care for the kids on the return to school, while the driver has to return the school and then do a contract run afterwards.

Martin could have had a nightmare day without his daughter in which case he would have said .... 'it was a nightmare day for me'. He wouldn't have said 'it was a nightmare day for I'
You'd be correct if the post had been titled

With regards to the tractor not pulling over, living in Boston and driving with my job to Skeggy at least twice a day I tend to get stuck behind my fair share of the infernal things and theres always the ones who will NEVER pull over.

I was lucky enough to give one of these drivers a lift back to my hire car office then other day and he told me that if he is seen by a director of his firm to be pulling over and letting cars past then he, personally, will be fined by his company. Apparantly the directors take a very pig headed, we pay our road tax and have a job to do, attitude.
