I belong to the GS forum for my bike, the Ride Reports section is just brilliant, reading through this huge thread makes me want to do what he did:

That was a very enjoyable read and confirms to me that, despite its many faults, the United States is a magnificent country.
Although I don't ride (a bike), a journey like that is, to me, what biking is all about.

Its out of the question for the next few years, but its something I will do!

Wonderful pictures, and I feel very lucky to say that I have been to the Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde; what mind blowing sights!! :-* :-* :-* 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
Although I do not usually like the idea of travelling on a motorbike, those pictures make me want to!! :D :D :D

that forum is great for travel resources and ideas, it lists loads of great roads all around the world, and camp sites and so on.
Just never post in technical :-X

Would it not work out a hell of a lot cheaper just to hire a bike whilt over there.
I know it's not the same as riding your own, but if yours was damaged in transit then you would have hire whilst there anyway.

Doubt it, i've looked at ones in Spain where they lend you a fully loaded GS, its 500EUR just for 7 days...
