Well got up at 3:30am to get to the Excel center and jumped into a cold Dock for a 7am start. I had a good swim but the cold got to my back muscules which started to twinge so I alternated with breaststroke which is just as fast as my front crawl but uses my legs more, yet still completed it in a respectable 30mins. The transition to the bike is a long one where I found some latecomer had squashed his stuff so that my transition equipment box was right up against my bike so I had to pull the box out before the bike. I made sure I returned the favour. I thought I was having a lousy bike ride as my speedo read only 18kmph on the flat which flumoxed me as it felt faster but on the second lap we passed Big Ben and noting the time I worked out the computer was setup wrong. Onto the run and all hell broke loose! The first 2 km of any run stage is hellish anyway as your muscules adapt from cycling to running, but mine were starting to seize up and at one point I couldn't move them. I realised that despite drinking lots on the bike I was really dehydrated so a mixture of walking, slow running and lots of steady fluids ensured that by the end of the second lap my legs were starting to work. I couldn't push them too hard though as if I did the cramp would get back. As a result of this I thought I had lost a lot of time but then on the last lap my dad was screaming at me "This one in 15mins! Go!" The legs were starting to go again so I had to balance the effort. I turned the corner to the finish and got my unexpactedly nice medal and lots of drinks thrust upon me.
Oh, and hi to Steve who met me to pickup some parts. Nice to meet you :y
So the breakdown is:
1500m outdoor swim
40km bike
10km run
Total time: 3 hours 19 mins and 51 seconds! I was suprised!
With some more work on my running I reckon I could break the elusive 3 hour barrier next time!
A big massive thanks to all who have helped me raise funds for Victim Support. I dont know the total yet as others have been canvassing on my behalf too but once I do I'll let you all know.
Right, now, vino, tv and a nice comfy sofa! 8-)

Sterling effort Gaffers,how many
GTi's PTI's would have kept up without flexing their muscles while trying to point to the gym? ;D

Excellent job Gaffers.
Was this your first "Professional" Triathlon?

It was my first Olympic distance triathlon. I have been doing Sprint distance triathlons on and off since 1996 back when no-one knew what they were. My brother did his first Ironman last weekend and has now set me a new challenge..... Florida Ironman 2012! I am seriously tempted ::)

I have a friend who used to be heavily into his Triathlon and he's done one of the Ironman's too :y
Good time for your first though :y :y :y
