Title: Be Careful!!
Post by: Sixstring on 17 August 2010, 15:23:22
Did a little "run" up to Doncaster last night,( 430 mile round trip) to get my Pikey wagon.  Saw the local plods new "weapon"........
Sneaky Barstewards are using a black Subaru Forester estate with cameras front and rear in it. They park up with the bonnet up so you think its broken down, the front camera looks out under the bonnet to scuttle gap. About 1/2 a mile down the road, an officer jumps out and stops you. Video evidence, bang to rights, no defence. On the A38 towards Derby last night.

The Subaru is on a 59 plate, and had no aerials or visible signs of "plod" use.

Be Warned!!

Not me speeding........ I was towing a Pikey wagon at 60mph when I saw it, and LOADS of people were passing me at a lot more than that, Mr Plod had a tidy amount last night of speeders. :-[

They do have all sorts, some vehicles can be easy to spot...but others not so.
They do indeed have some green S60's about, I saw one recently at auction. It was a 2005 '05' S60 T5 in green, with 265,000 miles. The outside looked like it'd done 50,000...it was really good. Interior wasn't bad either.
TVP have had a few Seat Leon Cupra R's, you get a smattering of 3 and 5 series across a fair few forces...and Skoda's, Focus ST's a few Lexus'. The Met have a few Range Rover's, although very few are on standard duty, most are with the SEG or DPG.

Down here we have a light blue Volvo S60, a Seat Leon Cupra, quite a few Skoda Octavia VRS', a green BMW X5 and a black BMW X5, all of these unmarked, there'll be more than that I'm sure too. Tell tale sign is the aerials which is what I look out for, for when I'm doing under the speed limit, so I don't get pulled for curb crawling  ::)

On the A55 at Broughton the other day, going West-bound though a well signed and long term 50 MPH roadwork section; I was on cruise at 49 MPH and was overtaken by a line of nose-to-tail`ers doing well over the national speed limit: the clearly visible fixed Gatso had a field day.....there`s simply no telling some people! ::)

M5 (Mostly south)... Between J14 & 30.. Some 09 plate silver skoda's... 2 BMW 5 series 07 & 08 (08 is blue & 07 is silver) both saloons... silver T5 est and a black range rover (only seen that once & on the other carrageway...

"Damm unsportsman like I say..." I mean they get all bent out of shape if we started going to work in "Marked Cars"

... Smart weapons - thats the way forward.... and they'd fit on my roof bars :o

The other thing i object to is being made to wait at the end of the M4 (the bit by the bus lane as you go into london) for 20 mins....whilst a convoy of 9 range rovers & 15 police bikes come past at 90..... expecting to see a glimpse of HRH or even "Phill the Greek" But no, Imagine my displeasure when a bently came past full of "ethnic diplomats" from bloody Madeupistan....

cos sitting there on the side of the motorway, like in the olden days in full livery only slows cars down, it doesn't bring in the fines that covert cars do.
And I thought the idea was to help us from speeding in the first place .......  :-/ :-/ :-/

Many parts of Cumbria use modest spec silver Skoda estates. The usual giveaway is a total lack of dealer or other window stickers, Magic ~Trees??? or anything else civilians might carry in thier car.
In other words plain cars are just too plain!!!! ::)

For the same reason why air fresheners from the interior mirror cause it to fail an MOT - it obstructs the drivers view of the road ahead....  ;)

Amazing all those years the boys in blue were driving round so dangerously, it must have caused millions of accidents too.
Another one for the H&S bollix file methinks.

Agreed, to an extent.  It did get a bit bulky for a while with two full size rear view mirrors and a chunky 1980/90 style video camera hanging from the roof.  There was a fair old potential blind spot that you had to work around...

See what you mean but surely at the top of the screen it's a less used area, unless you spent all day chasing the force helicopter.

I have been searching google images for something suitable but nowt available yet.

Imagine the standard mirror fitment for the driver.

Then add a same size mirror for the observer attatched and hanging directly beneath and pointing in completely the wrong direction.

Then a 80's/90's Hi8 camera hanging beneath that again.  Your available screen in the centre is getting distinctly crowded, Cap'n...  ;)

I was thinking of them mounted along the top of the screen rather than one below the other.
Still makes you wonder how we managed to survive so long before the H&S brigade were here to save us all though.

This is the only kind of relevant pic I've got H21, it's from an 'X' reg Omega saloon that was in service with TVP.
It only has one mirror, but has the camera shown.

No problem with all that ANPR, which is a constant distraction to Police Drivers.  You cant legally have a DVD playing, but the 'old bill' can watch the next episode of 'Police Camera Action' even before its been filmed.

Don't ever look at any motor on the road and think to yourself ' There's no way thats old bill ' .

Around our way I've seen the rozzers driving around in a brand new dark blue Ford Transit van!!!!
My house is right on a main road and late one night when I got up to have a piddle I looked out the window and saw this van just slowly cruising up the road, it got my attention just because of the slow speed it was doing.
During the next week or so I saw it a few more times late in the evening and started to think that they were either burglers cruising around looking for targets or drug dealers trying to be clever.

Imagine my suprise one night when I was out taking the dog for a walk and it came tearing up the road behind me with sirens blaring and blue flashing lights behind the front grill!
Sneaky sods :o

If it's any help, the m56 is being targeted by mobile camera teams at the moment. Since Monday, every day there has been mobile cameras on the bridges. The cunning sods only have one man with a tripod up there, by the time you see him you'll have been nabbed.

They must be making a fortune as there are loads that go down the m56 at warp 9.
