Title: Iphone problems
Post by: Shackeng on 22 August 2010, 18:39:25
On iTunes to download an App, and it said 'your phone needs an update' OK sez I 'Go ahead', half way through it gives up, 'unable to update' phone screen now completely frozen, unable to unfreeze with pressing the two buttons. Tried everything except dismantling it to remove the battery (did consider it). Net fixes say the last resort is to 'restore ' through i-tunes, but I understand I will lose all my Apps. Is this true? Cost money!!! Not me actually my daughter put them on, but I wouldn't want to lose them. Any other ideas?

By resetting you will lose the apps on the iPhone but as they are in your iTunes account you will be able to download them for free  :y

How does that work, as I've only connected to I-tunes twice, the second time as described! :-/ :-/ :-/

your purchases are logged with iTunes, with is linked to your login / e-mail address. So when you log in, your paid apps will Sync.

Are you running OS-4? Thats been last update, there has also been a signal upgrade 'patch' too

Anything bought from iTunes is tied to account, so no problem.  Just do the restore :y

Slight problem in that my daughter gave me the phone with her Apps on it, and that was with O2, I'm now with Vodafone, but I suppose I can still log in to her account on Itunes. :-/

If its jailbroken, and has apps installed they will most likey be 'not geniune' installs, so won't come back if you re-sinc.

Jailbroken is most popular way to unlock it to other carriers, but O2 do offer a service do it for a fee, which unlocks it, but its not jailbroken

I don't think so, as O2 unlocked it. Tried to restore it this AM and Itunes now can't see the phone at all. Yesterday it could.??? :-/ :-/ :-/

Tried it on my laptop, it can see the phone, but itunes cant. XP says its trying to find the Apple software update but is unable.

Tonight when I tried again iTunes found my phone and allowed me to restore. I did so and it now works, but all the music and extra apps have gone, and synching does not show any more apps or music., even after logging in the the old account. :-/ :-/ :-/

Anyone got any more ideas how to get them back?

Update,

It is only possible to get the downloaded Apps back on a 'restored' iPhone by synching it on the original computer with which it was first synched. Hope that makes sense. :y

You can 'authorise' up to 5 computers for the same iPhone/ iTunes account, then you don't have to go back to the original PC every time.
