Title: Busy day yesterday...
Post by: TheBoy on 19 September 2010, 10:14:03
The grand opening of my brother's shop didn't go entirely according to plan :(

The big opening was 9am yesterday.  Sadly, at that moment in time, none of the servers were working, which meant no tills, and no phones.  Half the electrics were still non functional, even now (sparky may have left a wire out - but was unable to test as the wall holding the fuseboard didn't exist.  No PDQ due to phone situation.

It looks all very snazzy, but as MDTM said to me when we spoke yesterday (thanks for all your help with this Mark :y), we rely too much on technology nowadays, and with the server down, the whole shop is disfunctional.

Hoping we dont have to remove all the shopfittings to get to the bottom of the electrical issue :(

Anyway, we managed to bodge something together to get the tills, phones and PDQ up, so we did get it open yesterday, albeit late :y

We're both knackered, hopefully the staff can take the brunt today...

Really pleased for your new venture Jaime  :y but, Albs and a list of others have been making fun, bad mouthing you whilst you were away working hard. So I have been trying my best to stick up for ya mate against a list of Members (one you have actually thanked above :-X). I did feel a tad bullied but felt you are worth it.

Your ever friend

I know people groan when I bang on about our future energy needs, but TB's situation should starkly serve to warn us that black-outs would bring the country to its knees. It's about our future, people. Every single one of us.  :(

You are dead right Nick! :y :y :y

I just do not know how life would go on if there was an outage lasting days, weeks..............!!!!   We now rely totally on power to run our lives; even more than I remember we did in the early 70s when we had prolonged, but programmed, power cuts.  Then we could do without power, but not now!

Yes D, you did Stirling work in the face of much ridicule last evening. :-* :-* :y

TB is fortunate indeed to have such a good friend to look after things when he’s away. :y

We had a power cut on Thursday, lasted about thirty seconds. When I went over to asda, the petrol station was closed, all the self-service pumps had gone down.

I remember the power cuts of the 70's as Ms Zoom eludes to.

It was all so much easier when the shopkeepr simply lit a couple of candles and put a hand crank starting style handle into the side of the till to wind the gubbins to record the transaction.

Doubt that would fly today, given the computer power required to light the display screen!   ;D
