For those too young to have seen Peter Cook & Dudley Moore, or for those who did see them, but want a reminder, here is a lesson in humour taken from a time when comedy reached its zenith, IMHO.

Without doubt Nick.
Cook was comedic titan. 8-) 8-) :y

Pure Comedy Gold, sadly now gone forever & replaced by puerile dross for the most part! :(
-
"I've got nothing against your right leg; the trouble is, neither have you... " may be the best comedy line ever.
;D ;D ;D ;D

Phil....you could not have explained it better :y

Brilliant humour and not a profanity or sexual innuendo in sight.
Modern "commedians" (?) could learn a few things rom those two.

Quite so E - a time when biting satire was delivered by the likes of TW3 (That-Was-The-Week-That-Was) to an audience eager to revel in the new wave of unrestrained expression unfolding in the early 60's. 8-) :y

At a time when comedy was considered to be 'safe' in a very conservative United States, the following burst forth in the 60's. 8-) 8-)

All classics, and as for Rowan & Martins laugh in I never missed an episode :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Goldie Hawn career of course took off from there and she has never looked back!
Sock it to me!! :D :D :D :D

interestingly, if Mr Spigot had applied to the public sector...he would have been guaranteed an interview!

There may not have been any profanity or innuendo in that sketch, but have you ever heard them in Derek & Clive live etc ? :o :o :o............they used every profanity/ innuendo/vulgar/offensive and downright vile utterance you will ever hear. It was still (for the most part ) hilarious though. :y

Newcastle city council would welcome an application from Mr Spigot, and if he was gay or transgender that would be even better :y

Its interesting that the the public sector guarantee interviews for those with a disability....even if they dont meet the base requirements :-?

Indeed, Albs, you are right in the points you make. Though I may be wrong, though, I believe the excessive swearing was a parody on those who are unable to undertake a conversation without every other word being a profanity. I have actually met real Derek & Clives... :o :o

Forgot to say- if he was "non white " it would be perfect!

You touch a raw nerve there. That "double tick" symbol irritates me beyond rationality. I've been looking for work for two years, and I can do very specialised and highly skilled IT stuff. I don't even get asked to interviews, partly, I suspect, because Spigot and his cronies are using up all the interview slots and partly because I'm very old.
What I find particularly annoying is that, according to the DDA, I can claim to disabled, should I choose to do so, which I don't. I am "disabled" for 4 separate reasons, which shows how silly the whole thing is.
- I'm deaf (but my hearing aids allow to participate in most day-to-day indoor activities).
- I've got arthritis in my right shoulder and both knees (but that doesn't affect my capacity to design computer systems)
- I have a chronic disease/disorder which requires daily medication (type 2 diabetes, which, once again doesn't affect my capacity to do the work I'm trained to do)
- I suffer from asthma (as before)
But I'm b*ggered if I'm going to claim an interview because of any of that stuff. I want to be interviewed because I'm good at the job.
