Title: santander taking the pi$$
Post by: Richie London on 29 September 2010, 16:05:44
just been checking my account for the month and it appears i made a payment on the 23rd aug for £52. that payment left me 27p overdrawn so the bank have charged me for this, £25 for unauthorised overdraft and £35 charges on top. i was back in credit 2 days later. first i blew off at a man in india, then a supervisor in manchester then a manager in belfast. now the charges are being dropped on condition i do not report them to the banking ombudsman. thieving robbing b*****ds  >:( >:(

Aren't banks great?

I got nobbled by Tesco Credit Cards last month for £25 or so I think for non-payment.. which happened because I made a payment too early and it ended up being taken off the previous months bill rather than last months - so I had two payments in July, and none in August IYSWIM  ::)

One mans overdraft pays your tiny interest, and gives the bank a nice profit.

They ruin the lives of MILLIONS of people with the banking crisis and then continue to take the piss.

Spanish banks are terrible for charging for everything. We have to pay 4 euros to draw out 100 euros from a different machine for example. Expect more of this in the UK in the future. The price of allowing Johnny Foreigner to buy our utilities etc.

Oh and the banks will be apying themselves monstrous bonuses in the New year and patting themselves on the backs again. Barstewards.......................

Just because you're using a credit card, doesn't mean you're not paying it off every month (thus, paying for it yourself) ;)

They have a plethora of other advantages, like complete buyer protection.

Going back to the OP I have had a few run ins with Santander (my wife too), but in each case I have made sure to push on until I get offered compensation - you may have to fill in forms etc and wait but it is some sort of satisfaction.

I'd prefer not to have the aggro but if I have to go through it then I will make sure it costs them....

And in general never lose your temper no matter how fed up you are, just take notes about every part of your case, conversations etc to use when the time comes to bite the b*st*rds back.

Hmm ive used a credit card in my life, get sent plenty of them then a year or two later they send me a nice letter saying we notice you are not using your card can you tell us why?
always reply and say because of the interest charges,  :(letter comes back saying if you pay at the end of the month then there are no charges? so i write back and say that i keep it for emergencies only, they then dont renew it!! lol :y

I had exactly the same problem with Nationwide back in the days when I had a Mortgage.
Two payments in one month do not count as a regular payment...
example....paid January payment and February payment on Feb 1st....had a letter saying I was in default for January and had paid March a month early.
And get this....beacause we always paid over the top when this was taken from the Jan payment it left £80 to pay. But the accompanying letter threatened repossesion !!!!!! >:( although we only had £1000 left on the mortgage.
Ensuing blowup had the person on the other end agreeing with me and saying I should never have been sent a letter like that....and she would pass my comments on to her manager.
So its not just credit card companies >:(

Paying for something with money you don't have is one thing. I wouldn't buy anything online without a credit card, though.

I have just spent £109 with an online retailer who didn't deliver the goods and, after a little investigation, appears no longer to be solvent. One phone call to my credit card issuer and the money's back. :y

Pay it off every month and it's free. You get quite a lot for your money then, IMHO.

They were doing that years ago when they were the Abbey National Richie.

They dropped a few charges, but it didn't stop me taking legal action myself against them!  Worked a treat, with me even commencing a small claims court action; they reimbursed me with £2,000 that they had 'stolen' from me.

They didn't want to appear in court and defend their illegal actions, and so paid out on my claim!! 8-) 8-)

Can't stand banks and have happily took several of the big names to the cleaners for family and friends, bank charge reclaims, mis-sold payment protection insurance and the like. Each one has included interest paid to the claimant at their highest rate ;D

Must be about 20 grand by now :y

Mrs TB does not have a credit card. So it can be done ;D

I have several, mainly because they give you £50 or so to take one out. Only use a couple mind.  My credit rating must be down the pan due to this ;D

I can see an end to the days of free banking in the UK - we've had it good, but the recent campaigns against excessive charges for unauthorised overdrafts will put an end to it.  In the old days, the payment that caused the ocerdraft would have been rejected, charged a rejection fee, and £20 for a letter from the bank manager.
