Title: Dario Franchitti
Post by: Banjax on 11 October 2010, 00:47:36
not that you'd know, but "super" Dario won the 2010 Indycar Championship - that's him won 3 of the last 4 seasons in Indycar 2010, 2009 and 2007 (he didn't compete in 2008 as he was racing NASCAR)

Too soon to call him a legend?  :y

Great driver :y - used to watch him in the German DTM series then followed his progress in Indycar. Shame he never gave F1 a go as he's probably better than many that are currently in it. ::)

if i recall he's been offered, but never from a big team and he's not interested in going to F1 to just to make up the numbers - i think that ship has sailed  :(

Drivers who came from U.S. type racing in the last 15 years or so havent tended to do very well in F1. F1  requires a much more technical approach - more head than heart - nowadays. U.S. racing is more old school, seat of the pants type approach.
Remember Michael Andretti, Alex Zanardi and Juan Pablo Montoya ?  ;)
Franchitti is probably smart enough to realise this and knows where he is well off.

Agreed Albs  :y, but the same cannot be said of the F1 boys that go over the pond after thier F1 experience , Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi , Nigel Mansell  :y :y :y

Ah yes but don't forget, Dario Franchitti is Scottish, not American and cut his teeth racing in the UK to begin with. ;)
