Title: Why I like Planet Rock
Post by: Teebee on 12 October 2010, 12:38:03
The DJ is commenting on Julia Roberts latest film "Eat, Pray, Love". "It's about a divorcee who goes round the world on a voyage of self discovery" pause "I notice a distinct lack of car crashes and aliens in the plot, think i'll give it a miss"  :D

We could ask them to modify the plot, Julia Roberts gets carjacked by an alien while on a voyage of self discovery, in the ensuing crash all her clothes get ripped off. Does that cater for all tastes? ;D

in my view....   any earth bound movie MUST include at least one american city being vapourised, earthquaked, tornadoed, volcanoed or tidal waved....  or equally otherwise devastated.

on that basis...  i loved

day after tomorrow
deep impact
2012

and so on and so forth.

My Fair Lady? :D :D

I used to drive a Fairlady (named after the musical, so it's said) .. yeesh that was an embarrassing name for a car.

Went and saw The Phantom of the Opera in London with the ex and really couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.. she was apoplectic that I thought it was all a bit silly (even though she'd spent several months calling my hobby of cars worse things, ah, double standards).

Anyway.. I digress and my bitterness is showing.

Yep - my first was an import (hence the Fairlady monkier - it still had the sticker on the back, too).. my current one is a UK car though, so I get to avoid the Fairlady name  ;D

I'd absolutely kill for a nicely restored 240 or 260 with a big V8 in the front .. but as you say, most of them are utterly rotten now and the ones that aren't cost a fortune :(

This would be nice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhFc2oPEzHk

Oh yes - definitely a triumph of torque over traction  ;D

I keep saying my next car will be a V8 of some description.. I just can't decide what, but whatever it is has to have that noise :)

Hmmm, I'll bite. [sings]The hills are alive with the sound of music [/sings]

As for the other The Alamo / She wore a yellow ribbon / Big Country

Am I close?

As for the original subject, I enjoy planet rock for the variety of music. No set timeframe and there is rarely a duff tune on. They do seem to of toned down the jingles though (some were classic).
