Anyone seen these? Red & pick on the front it say:s This Document Is Not Proof of Ownership, It shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle. Also says on the front Buyer Beware this vehicle could be stolen, makes the vehicle look dodgy to me. They changed from 15th of August apparently.

As far as I am aware the log book has never been proof of ownership.
-
Got one of those for the renault you're so jealous of. We'll get used to them.

Well yes Del as it means even if your car is stolen, along with the V5, it still remains your property as far as the DVLA records show. The thieves waving the V5 at police officers will mean nought 8-) 8-) 8-) ;)

Doesnt matter, your recirpt for a car is proof of ownership the log book is proof of responsibiliry, hence the name of "Keeper" get the bill for the car tax.
If you read the old one I am sure it will explain, and the seller was responsible for sending off the log book for the new seller unless sold to a dealer and then it didnt add another new keeper.

I have a new one for the omega,
it looks like it came from Fisher Price,
-
Hmm there was a rumour going round that the government had to bring out new ones because where cars were being removed fr lack of tax, they were being challenged in court as it didnt belong to them? so now the logbook just says who is responsible for taxing and insuring it?
like i say just a rumour but there is no smoke without fire!!
-
It makes you wonder why they changed the wording from "owner" to "keeper" on the old document, it was almost saying we are just looking after the car for the DVLA. :-/, if it says owner then there is no arguement as to who is responsible for the legal stuff.
-
As far as I recall, it was always the case that the V5 (and 'log book' as previously) said that the named person was the registered keeper not owner.
Perhaps the new colour/layout/wording is just to emphasise that.

Or simply making it plain and clear to those who are hard of thinking..... ;)

That too.

the most important thing about the new log book is that you cant scrap a car as the box has been removed.

Any ideas why?

Scrapping your vehicle
You must take your vehicle to an authorised treatment facility who will make sure that it’s dismantled in an environmentally friendly way.
The vehicles you can take are:
•cars
•light vans
•three-wheeled motor vehicles - excluding motor tricycles
Authorised treatment facilities
The ATF will give you a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) straight away if they agree to take your vehicle. They’ll also tell DVLA that you’re no longer responsible for the vehicle. Keep the certificate as proof that the vehicle has been destroyed and you’re no longer responsible for it.
If you have a vehicle other than those already mentioned, you still need to take your vehicle to an ATF to ensure it’s destroyed to environmental standards. They’ll arrange for the vehicle record at DVLA, to be updated with a Notification of Destruction.

In that case, basically taking the responsibility to notify from the reg keeper to Wily Wullie at the
local scrappy Authorised Treatment Facility who may or may not hold up their end of the deal.
remember to keep hold of your Certificate of Destruction..... ::) ;)
-
Half of the people on this list don't seem capable of 'recycling' a vehicle:

I suppose the next wheeze will be to charge you for the recycling...and Brussels will be ecstatic.
