Title: Olympics ticket prices

OUCH!

Given the price of a decent seat, and a decent event, Plus travel and accomodation both surely inflated for the events too  :o

Looks like the 'common man' will be well and truely priced out of attendance  >:(

Not sure I agree with that Jim ....   ... prices are "per session" which generaly will mean at least half a day .. if not a whole day .. and many a "common man" seems willing to pay far more than £20-£50 to watch a bunch of poofters players stand around chase a round bladder full of air for just 90 minutes....  :)

I would rather have needles plunged into my optics than watch any of this.

Judging by the astoundingly excessive coverage by the 2 main news channels given to the Chilean miners rescue and the sale of some football club, we will be driven to distraction by the coverage of the Olympics.

What a pain in the arse this is going to be. [smiley=thumbdown.gif] [smiley=thumbdown.gif] [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

Here's a link between the two:

Chilean miners are to visit Liverpool to show Roy Hodgson how to dig his club out of a rather great hole before Christmas.

Its just he annoyed me on the news trying to justify the prices, then saying the decision to give London kids free tickets was now on hold, this is the pledge they made to try & get people to give the olympics the thumbs up, then they have got the front to ask for 100`s of volunteers to work for nothing during the games, i notice Lord poker face didnt do it for nothing. >:( >:(

damned if they do, damned if they don't, always a tough one. Tbh think they have to strike a right balance, there is a scheme to get 8 of 10 London secondary school kids to go games for free!!!

At the end of the day, business will pay for these high priced tickets to impress clients and such.

Tickets were always going to be stupid money!

I think people are being a bit unfair here and looking at the headline prices.  If you consider that for children under 16 the ticket will be priced at their age and that the road-based events are free to watch as just two examples then there has obviously been a lot of thought gone into trying to make the games accessible.

The other side to this is of course the premium seat prices, which are undoubtedly pretty eye-watering.  However, why should such seats or events be priced cheaply when some people will attempt to profit from them and make money for themselves?  At least this way the games are clawing back some of the investment, and personally if I was going to be paying a high price for a seat then I would prefer it was to the organisers and not some scummy tout.  >:(

I think the games will be well attended, partly because the audience base is Europe-wide and the transport links are there for people to come from far and wide, and partly because you can't compare London 2012 to the utter shambles that was Delhi.  I've got experience of both and the organisation for the Olympics is light-years ahead.

Without appearing to be answering someone else's post, I think the point here is that Coe got his peerage more down to his background and expertise than from being a mate of the former PM.  However, I wouldn't necessarily say that Coe being an ex-Tory MP excludes him from being on friendly terms with our undoubtedly impoverished Mr Blair though.

the harlem globetrotters all crammed into my wifes house when she was a kid in the 70's - her mum ran a b&b and they were on a tour of scotland when their bus broke down outside the house at night  ;)

this was at the height of their fame too, there was a cartoon show and everything - from what she recalls they were all a great laugh, no divas, just friendly, warm and polite.........imagine the entire Chelsea or Arsenal squad spending the night in a b&b these days  without throwing a tantrum :o

Although I find almost all sport tedius, I would imagine that it would be a pretty emotional experience to stand in the middle of the kop with thousands of scousers singing "youll never walk again alone". I get goosebumps when I hear it on TV. :)

............Living as I do, a 2 minute cycle ride from the park, I wasn't in the least bit surprised to see the prices as they are.

Why put up with locals if you have the corporate wedge?
The whole thing is very largely moving in the direction I thought it would.

The so called legacy of the games will be a joke - as soon as the Games are over watch all the money leave the area and the park becomes 'no-go' to local people.

I had hoped to be able to take the kids to some of the events. Much as I suspected, no chance..................

Well, well, well what a surprise! ::)

It was always going to pander to the corporations and be stupidly expensive so I can't see why people are surprised by this. There are £20 tickets but these are likely to be so far back from the action that you'll need a telescope to see anything.

For me I am considering taking my dad to the Athletics final or super-final. As it will be the one time he will get to an olympics, its going to cost a fortune. Quite annoyed by the opening ceremony prices though, they are a rip.

In modern Britain the value of most things is well known but their true worth remains elusive to the many.

In many cases the lust for money, apparent power and privilege are the constituent parts of the life-blood of this breakless, introspective, irresponsible, gutless, superficial and star-struck, celebrity-obsessed and appearance above everything-oriented nation.

Bah!

Ooh, I think I'm feeling a tad bitchy this afternoon - how unusual. :-?

Move out for a month and rent your property out to someone. You could charge a fortune.
My daughter lived a similar distance from the park until a year ago. I told her she should stay there and rent out her apartment during the games, did she listen ?? ::)
