Title: 118cc ......for £89
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 17 October 2010, 17:45:13
I have just purchased a new petrol mower from Homebase for £89.....reduced from £119.95...It has a 118cc....4 stroke OHV engine....and a 40 cm cut....It works a treat......  once I found the knack of starting it ::) ::).....and cuts the longest grass in one cut. It's made in China....surprise ....surprise....but it seems quite robust and cost no more than an electric mower. It really is great not to have to drag the electric cable about... :y :y :y.....Just how do they produce them and then sell them at a profit at the price?.. :y

Mine is & ten years on it's still going strong :y
I change the oil regular & that's it needs, cracking little mower :y
My neighbour borrows it when she's left the grass to grow too long for her push mower, i'll sometimes hear a clatter & grind when she's hit a stone :'(
Borrows it with a full tank of petrol, returns it empty & never buys any ::) ::)

It probably is  :y

I bought a petrol mower about 4 years from B&Q
At the time they were selling Briggs and Stratton branded mowers for considerably more money than their own branded mowers...comparing the engines between the two, you couldnt tell them apart.
So, branded as B&Q, but basically a Briggs and Stratton....altho, the rest of the mower had one or two more plastic parts.
So i sent my Dad in, on a tuesday (10% off day for oap's) to get me a B&Q one.....£70  :y :y

Secret, i found in starting them, especially when they've been stood all winter.....ignore the '3x' pushes to fill the carb with petrol......try 6x to 10x  :y
Mine usually goes first time.....albiet with a big puff of smoke, which clears pretty quick  :y

Are you suppose to do that then... ::)
Mines still got the same oil in it that came with it  :-X ::)

I have two (one operational, one for spares) Dennis Paragon cylinder mowers which I think date from the 50's or thereabouts.

The Villiers engine (kick-start) on the working machine is still going strong and hasn't been overhauled in the many years I've had it.
