Title: Television.....I've decided on this one.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 18 October 2010, 14:14:32

Overall....I feel that plasma is better. This television has received many excellent customer reviews.

The best price I've found is from Dixon's at £539.99 including free delivery.....But Mrs Optimist has looked on the internet and found a voucher code for £20 off....making it.....£519.99.

Can anybody get this model for less? Let me know...... I'm going to order it today. :y :y :y :y :y

Looks like a good price to me  :y Couldn't see it cheaper anywhere that I know of, either.

Now you have me looking .. why is it the only >60" sets are the '3D Ready' ones, which I don't really want.

Depends what you watch (or it did), my 1.5yr old Panny plasma outperformed the LCD's around it hands down when watching fast moving action. I suspect that LCD has caught up now but I bet Plasmas still haven't killed off the screen burn which was their biggest negative point.

To the OP, try to check out both from different angles looking for reflection, I remember when I bought mine that the higher models had an anti-glare screen coating, it makes a significant difference.

Odd. Aren't Dixons also on the high street? Sounds like an online  price of a high street competitor to me.

Having said that, I wouldn't fancy entrusting anything to Dixons after-sales support so you made the right choice. :-X

Dixons rebranded all their high st shops to Currys, I think that brand only exists online and in airports now.

Bah, rubbish, plasma is far superior in "picture quality" IMO. I don't care about superior switching speeds and 50 gazillion to 1 contrast ratios or what ever the details are, the picture with LCD is, to my eyes, rubbish, not one of the top end lcd's looked right in the bigger sizes.....maybe my eyes only work with plasma perhaps?  ;)
And afaict the new 3d tv's seem to be going with plasma koz LCD can't cope.  :P. (I haven't looked into that much tbh :-X)
Anyway 42 inch plasma in the bedroom, 50 inch plasma in the lounge.  :y

Well.....the time for talking is finished......I've ordered it....£519.99.

Mrs Optimist used her Nectar card and went through to Dixon's via Nectar.com.....so this gave us 2076 nectar points as they are offering 4 per £ at the moment.....I think this is worth about another tenner.

So I think I've done a good deal.

You can be sure that next week somebody..... somewhere will be selling this television for £400.....Oh well that's life. ;D ;D :y :y :y :y :y

Yes those Pioneer panels were very well thought of.

If plasma does it for you - splendid - as far as I'm concerned they're too heavy, run too hot and consume too much energy for me.

Agree there Steve.

Would they double up and allow 3D to be used via a suitable graphics card on a computer, would make a nice monitor for my bedroom and double as a tv.  ::)

LCD sets offer a great static picture Zulu...but they are very poor when it comes to dealing with movement.....that's my subjective opinion anyway...  :y:y

I would not buy a plasma without getting a 5 year warranty.

I had 2 plasmas and they both died within 3 years of purchase -  the warranty paid off both times.

I don't like LCD so now have an LED backlit set which I'm pleased with. The 46" LED model consumes only a third of the power that the plasma did - so that also helps.

Proper LED is the ideal but still a few years off.

Just my views - but as this place is full of opinions then why not add mine also?
