Leicestershire Police have just got one so its been on the local news today.

Apparantly its a spnsorship thing to display at rural events to highlight the issues of tractor theft (which is a major issue)

But, I would so love to see one going down the road at 40 with the blues and 2's going!

Comicalness aside.. that is a cracking piece of reporting..

"Let's use this as an example of all this spending!"
"But it wasn't paid for by public funds, it's been loaned to them for free?"
"Ah not to worry, bury that little detail in the article, nobody will notice!"

To be fair, in rural places in Winter its not actually a bad idea! Its not all about chasing after Ronnie and Bigs, it might be a case of just being able to get somewhere if we have snow like last year

Can't see it being of much use in urban areas, but for rural recovery tasks? - yep, I'd give it a try. :y

The rest of the piece about gifts, trinkets and advertising aimed at promoting a favourable image of the police in the minds of the public is ballicks in my view:  The best way to do that is for police officers to be out and about catching offenders and helping people in need.

It's hardly rocket science - HMIoC please note.

Cracking idea...

50k of Tractor, that no doubt has a universal key, no immobilser, alarm or any other security device factory fitted...  Sadly there are a huge number of heavy agricultural machinery stolen each year...

Exactly! Didnt anyone see the news reports during the floods (last year I think) where the police had torequisition a tractor because even their landrovers couldnt help those members of the public stranded? Similarly, could see a tractor coming in handy in bad snow conditions.

Quite agree, particularly in high rural area's, could 'borrow' them from the manufacturer anyway so no need for high cost.......... :y
