Title: Question for dog owners
Post by: Nickbat on 18 October 2010, 13:29:13
In a few days, our new family addition will be able to go for his first walk (having had his innoculations and got over his kennel cough). What method of poop scoop do you use?

Some people recommend nappy sacks, while others go for the pet shop plastic grabs (with bags).

Please don't anyone post that they don't clear up when walking in public areas! >:(

Both nappy sacks and the cheap poo bags from Tesco etc that come in a bone shaped dispenser .... they're about £1   :y  :y  :y

We use plastic poop bags with the twin handles for fastening the used bag securely. Turn the bag inside out over your hand, pick up the dogs droppings (hopefully fairly solid ::)) & turn right way up and knot the handles :y
For those occassions when our little darlings have a really soft or loose toilet , I carry a squirty bottle of disinfectant to cover what I can't pick up :D

The worst are  those that bag it .... and then hang it on the nearest tree/bush!  :-? :-? :-? They must think there's a dog poo fairy to clear up after them  ::)  ::)

Well to be totally honest Nick, when one of ours does a runny whoopsy, me & swmbo 'freeze' :o wondering how the hell we're going to clean it up! ;D So that stuff looks like a good if rather expensive remedy for those times, but the regular poop bags would be no good unless we take an ice pick to break it into manageable 'portions'!!! :-? Being a responsible pet owner is a bit more involved than it's made out to be ::) ;D :y

Yes strange that one, go to the trouble of bagging then dump on the nearest hanging point - when I cycle to work (most days) I go through a park and sure enough every day there will be a collection of these bags waiting for the fairy to pick up.

Perhaps if we told them to pop them under their pillows and wait for a nice shiny pound coin to turn up.. :) :)

Don't get me started on the fact  that pet owners dont pick up after there dogs and  I think its disgusting when they dont pick up after there dogs>:(

I always keep my back garden poop clean and will always pick up after my dogs if they was to one a poop on the path while out walking them.

I use the sented bags

My old man buys freezer bags, strong and you get 60 for about £1. one guy had the cheek of letting his dog leave his mess on the pavement outside my place, when i confronted him his excused was ' i havent got any bags so what do you want me to do?'. 30 seconds and an adsa bag later he cleaned it up and was on his way feeling a bit sheepish no doubt.

Although not outside my house, I watched another dog poo while I was out with ours. I'm sure the other owner saw it but did nothing towards picking it up. I calmly offered to give him one of my poo bags at which point he then said he'd not seen his dog poo-ing  ..... he cleared it up with his own bag.
Clearing up after a dog isn't the most pleasant thing to have to do, but you know what's involved before you get a dog.

They always poo in someone else's flower beds, normally just after they've put down the compost ready for planting... ;)

Exactly!  ;D Although there is one around my way (at least I think it's a cat.. could be a fox) that habitually craps in the middle of my gravel path..

Kennel cough!?!.....poor little-mite. :'(

Once one`s heard that distinctive hacking-cough and seen them in such distress; one wouldn`t ever wish to see or hear it again. :(

As for poop-picking: I simply use the £1 shop poo-bags, pick-up using one bag and and dropping it all in another bag held with t`other hand).....and if there`s no handy bin for the poop-in-bags, I hang `em on the car`s tow-ball until I get home.....if you drive fast enough; you keep ahead of the whiff! ;D

if i had a dog [and i dont] i wouldnt clear it up why should i ?
sure i wouldnt let it do it in a kids playground/pavement and yes i know i could be fined for it but part of my council tax goes to pay for the upkeep of these places so if im already paying for the service why should i do the job myself? would i get a refund on my tax? i dont think so somehow.

If you had a dog, please explain how you would take it to the nearest field without walking on a pavement?

This is the same attitude lazy B***ards use for litter which is almost as bad as dog poo bags hanging from trees. People should be responsible for the mess they or their pets make in public places. >:(

I use the cheap tesco Value Nappy Sacks, about 9p for 100 last time I bought them...  The labrador very often backs into the very long grass and nettles and stuff, so that does tend to get left (just through pure inability to retrieve it), the little terrier's get picked up most of the time (only left when we don't realise she has been or when she is loose)...

I think the best way to compare Dog Poo with Manure would be to compare Lemonade with Toxic Waste...
