Title: I will remember.
Post by: Dishevelled Den on 14 November 2010, 10:58:51
Far from vainglory, far from any bellicose content and far from jingoistic zeal - but close to the folly and true horror of conflict - I utter these simple truths on this day of national remembrance:

I am proud of those who serve and have served;

I am proud of those who gather to remember the sacrifices made;

I am proud and am humbled to have given service to this Nation.

Two minutes never seems sufficient appreciation; for enjoying our tomorrows.

There is not a day when I do not remember:

Private Walter Frank Edwards, No. 13369, 53rd Coy., Machine Gun Corp (Infantry), aged 37 who fell, lost to the mud, at Ypres on 30/07/1917.
Wally, my Great Uncle, we will always remember you :'( :'( :'( :'(

Mr. Edward Freeman, civilian, killed by a Luftwaffe bomb on Tunbridge Wells on 12/09/1940.
Grandfather we will always remember you :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I am listening to the stories from the people who survied the Coventry blitz as its 70 yrs today that my city was destroyed by the Germans.

Over 500 defenceless people where killed that night but we will remember them along with our  brave troops who gave so much for us all.

If you wish to listen to this its on www.bbc,co,uk/coventry
