Well as we in southampton have had naff-all snow to play with, just wondering who in the country has managed to get their motor's stuck or near as,
Your amongst friends, be honest we wont laugh :y
-
Well I couldn't get mine on the drive yesterday without the help of my son & next door neighbour placing mats under the back wheels! :-[
On the plus side the mig breezed up the bank & over the railway bridge while most other (lesser) motors failed miserably because their human interface was revving the arse out of them ::) ;D
-
we have nine inches of snow up here, but not stuck yet - and still using the Omegas. No need to resort to Discovery or tractor yet.

I had that problem tonight, got stuck with half the car sticking out on the road :-[ bit of clearing and some salt and soon sorted.... :y
Full tank of fuel and 3 bags of sand in the boot, snow mode and very few problems..... :y :y stopping mind can be a different story, found at times, knocking it out of drive can help.... :)
-
Had about 10inches here & still more to come.
Roads are like skatin rinks. Couldnt get out our estate
yestarday lunchtime. Mick had to put new spare on the meega, now its been good.
(apart from when it hits black ice :o :o)

Sadly I have to admit to being defeated by the snow at the moment, spent half the day today trying without success to get my company VW Passat off my drive, unfortunately my miggy is stuck behind it so didn't even try to move it, hope I have better luck tomorrow :(
-
Me . I live at the top of an incline which goes to +1/10 at the very top.
Snow's a very rare event down here hence the total absence of any salt far less a gritter lorry !
It snowed on Sunday and the tarmac surface is just impossible. Can't get the Freelander up ,Transit down and the Omega and Manta are shut away .
Fortunatley I'm making furniture in the workshop so I expect to be " working from home " until the weekend or until we get a tractor load of scalpings spread on the surface .
Ah well, wood burners are blazing and I'm stocked up with logs till , Mmmm..........2012. ;D ;D

Nope... No Problems with getting stuck :y :y
Did have a glancing (and it really was glancing) blow off the wall of the pub today with the O/S corner of the front bumper though :-[ Over a crest and sheet ice, slower than walking pace and it ran on a touch ::) I reckon it'll T-Cut out though :y
Got home about 17:30 and the car is covered again... Light powdery ball type snow too so will be drifting by the morning :(
Not that I'm likely to go anywhere... Had to call in sick today as I've done my back in :'(
[edit]Should add... I'd have been fine getting into the pub if the dosy bint coming the other way had waited to leave me enough room for a decent swing but she was adamant that her and her 4x4 wouldn't stop on the wet (and only wet) road >:( >:([/edit]

went out came right back again nor me or the miggy enjoyed the snow and the trip out made my bum go boo ;D

Road was wet (been well gritted and used) car park was sheet ice under 4-5" of snow ;) ;)
Incidentally, the front wheels on both my car and the Brother in Law's Jag XJR were being pushed along the ice from a stand still with the brakes applied :D :D No problems once moving though ;) :y

snow or no snow mine wont move in any gear at the moment :(

do not drink and drive..... :-*
Assuming you were not being pushed by another car, knock it out of auto, I have found, at dead slow speeds the brakes not working because, even on idle, the engine was pushing the car... ::) seriously try it, I found out through desperation, I was not going to stop :-X The only other option, in my mind, was to put it in reverse and boot it, something I have not done since about 1993 in a Rover 827 that was simply not stopping with and out of control car coming in my direction... ::) ::)

Yep... Sometimes :y Wouldn't do it at any speed greater than about walking pace though as I tend to use the engine for braking more than the brakes :y

We're up to about a foot deep in it at the mo. I dont have to go out in t0he snow till it clears,
But my girlfriend left at 5.45 to complate her work but abandoned it all because of all the traaffic that was struggling.
She has a rover 25 and from what I gather it;s been great in snow (new boots on the front for the MOT it had friday) so will be interesting how she gets on in the morning with the fresh snow at 7am.

No concerns about her and the car, it's the others like the youths in the saxo that spun in front of me the other night, a lot of the younger drivers lack the experiance for this weather climate.

Some of them lack the experience for clear, dry, straight roads.. let alone slippery conditions :(
On my way home tonight - light snowflakes falling but nothing settling, wet roads but no major ice - I couldn't help but notice how people were divided into two camps:
1) Going really, really slow - far slower than necessary if you just keep good distance and awareness - but still accelerate & steer with no regard for the conditions
2) The ones who go steaming up to a T junction (as I'm approaching on the main road) and then stamp on the anchors - one hint of ice and they'll slide straight out in front of me ::)
(I'm guessing the ones who actually could drive were stuck somewhere in the queues of morons.. ;D )

Think I may be one of those >:( if you mean those drivers who get to work and home at a steady and safe speed, leaving an appropriate gap between the car in front then guilty as charged.... >:( or are you thinking of the gas board van that overtook me on a dual, in thick snow and spun out just missing the car in front of me.... :question Glad I drive a solid and heavy car in this weather.... :y
Edit. I should add that we are at least 12 inches of snow on top of black ice..... :'(
-
me not having a car at the moment is not so bad i think, i wont wrap it round a tree in the ice :)
-
Got a foot here or just over. Have had to clear the driveway of most of the snow over the last few days to actually get some momentum going. But once going I've been fine, plenty of weight in the boot and brimmed the tank with snow mode on, and TC on/off when I need it.
Rear tyre blew out though which wasn't fun changing in the snow.

Steady & safe speed is good.. appropriate gap is good.. ;)
What I can't figure out is why some people believe that a safe speed is 20mph (in the conditions present around me - obviously in 9" of snow, 20mph is a safe speed ;D), yet have had their cars fitted with a digital accelerator pedal that has two settings - 'off' and 'on' just with a variable speed limiter ;)
The other group don't have the speed limiter, and also appear to have digital brakes that go from 0 to 'throw the anchor out' ;D
Both approaches work fine on a nice dry road, of course, until they get to some ice.. and then they either spin the wheels or come flying out of a side road because they couldn't stop :(
(I'm thinking of the 4x4 pickup truck that was half way into the main road the other day, there! Good job none of us were on top of him as he made his unscheduled exit from the junction..)
-
luckily still no snow here and i am out of fags. knew i should of got 60 this morning :(

To me that is the perfect example.. :y 4x4 is no better on black ice than a Mig yet drivers think they can just go regardless, I have overcome traction problems it is stopping that is a worry and 4x4 has the same problem.......... :(
-
Not been stuck yet but theres still time. Came to work at 5pm and it was snowing, hasnt stopped since. Fine powdery stuff so its drifting. Could be fun on the way home at 8am. No doubt people wil be smacking into each other all over the shop on the A12. ::)
-
luckily still no snow here and i am out of fags. knew i should of got 60 this morning :(
Got 400 in the car and another 400 in the house if i get stuck at least i got me tabs (mmm now do i keep a bottle of red in the car as well). Keep a spade and warm clothes in both places as well like :y

A challenging drive home last night, the A606 and the A6006 were shut so I decided to go 'off piest'.
Heading towards a steep hill and I cna see 2 transits and a pug stuk up the hill, I thought, lets have a go.
Second gear on tickover and up she went, no problems at all.
-
Drivin myself to work later, mick has took me the past few days. Not looking forward to it,
**note to oneself... Snow mode button & TC buton,
easy on the pedal**

Yep, and then they go loopy when you pass them quite safely at 40 MPH on the other lane of the dual carriageway - the one with (shock, horror!) a light dusting of snow. :o
People who are blatantly not coping with driving should concentrate on what they're doing, or better still, stay at home, not abuse other drivers. >:(

Speaking of which.. I see the M3 was closed this morning due to an 'incident' .. to be fair I don't know what the conditions on the M3 were like, but the back roads between Bracknell & Chertsey were clear, dry and not even slightly icy, the M3 can't possibly have been that bad..

It was cold, so if anything had melted and re-frozen it would have been slippery.
Probably some rep in a BMW playing pinball with the armco barriers. ;D

Sadly, the M3 closure is because there was a dead body found.

A mate of mine works on the motorway maintainance, and I was talking to him last night, it seems like people are still driving like idiots and paying no attention at all to the poor weather.
Obviously they have attended a lot more accidents etc with the poor weather, but sadly have had a motorist come through a cordoned off section and crush one of the teams workers legs against the armco and a team leader has been killed because someone had carered 2/300 yards through a coned off section and hit him.
The motorways are patrolled and gritted as as when and the snow hasnt even had chance to settle. (Dont know how they faired last night though)

My apoologies.
Totally miswritten by me.

Not so much stuck as decided to ring in and take a days holiday, nothing in my diary and terrible conditions......... ::) ::)
Getting fed up with it now...... :( :( :(

I certainly agree, as it seems to me that more and more people are displaying a complete lack of rationale when it comes to the process of decision-making.

The cynic in me would say that's the inevitable result of responsibility for one's own actions being taken away in most areas of life where one is now wrapped in cotton wool and assumed to have no common sense.
The stark reality of car, driver and icy road provides no easy escape, unfortunately. ;)

Not had enough snow to worry about, although the boot is full of heavy stuff now, as well as a shovel (but still have to buy that sand!).
But I did go and have myself some fun yesterday morning, in the inch of snow we did have. Great for car control practice at 5mph :y
-
We've had no snow today (yet!) but what we have had previously is now sheet ice... Our road is very interesting ::) ;)
Trouble is... We're forecast about 22 hours of non stop snow, starting at about 2100 tonight! Not sure SWMBO will be making it to work tomorrow ::)
I know I'll have to get up to move my car in the morning, then clear hers for her so I'll probably end up taking her. She's not very confident in bad snow/ice as she's had a few "experiences" over the last 10 years or so, including getting stranded on the A14 for 18 hours a few years back :o
-
ermmmmmm i havent got stuck ;D
