A bit surprising :(

Even though the representative from the ABI denied this at the end of that BBC report, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least as many call-centre staff don't seem to know their arse from their elbows if the script doesn’t tell them what to say.
We of course end up paying for their incompetence - in this case - by being faced with potentially increased premiums.
What a bloody shambles.

a tyres a tyre at end of the day although they should reduce the premium because you would be slightly safer in wintery conditions

Why tell them.....say nothing.. :y

What a load of poo tyres are tyres anything to rob us.
It's true what they say RIP OFF BRITAIN.
If the tyres help to get better traction on the snow/ice then they should incourage us to fit them as in theory should save insurance companys money on claims :)

heard about this report a couple of days ago and checked the AA website about it. Seems to me a mix up down to the ignorance of call centre staff-and their training depts!!-and you should NOT be penalized for fitting them. Currently only about 3% of the uk's motorists fit them which isnt surprising given 1)general non awareness of them in the first place 2)cost and 3)our climate. nonetheless ,with forecasts of increasingly more severe winters to come and the higher% of accidents that happen in those months ,the AA and others are looking at a push to encourage people to fit them inc lower premiums perhaps for those that do.

The world has become a daft place. So long as they are correct profile, width, speed rating for the car what does it matter.
In Spain if you turn up for the MOT with any tyres that aren't specified on the V5 logbook equivalent it is a fail. I personally think that is reasonable. the manufacturers spent a lot of time getting the spec right. Those folk in the Uk with 18 inch rims and 30 profile tyres would just get turned away. Likewise if you are stopped by the cops and they compare tyres fitted to those specified in the log book (which you have to carry with you by law) then it is a fine or worse.
