Started about 8am here, now about an inch with more to come, there's very little wind so guess it's here for a while.
I'm sure you've seen it on the news, airports cancelling flights etc, might affect Gaffers flight tomorrow by the looks. :-/
-
It's been on and off all night here, got a couple of inches already and it's still coming down. The gritters have been out overnight and the roads are fairly clear but the fresh snow is starting to settle on the gritted roads now! It does look pretty though :y
-
mini blizzard yesterday which lasted an hour, that was it.
-
:'( There`s an even 2ft. of snow here now.....`trying to work out how long it`ll take me to clear enough of the driveway-track across the fields (as two wheel-ruts) to reach the nearest tarmac road; 500 metres away......feeling gutted, alone and miserable. :'(
-
It wasnt snowing when i got up at 6am to turn the heating on....i was cold in bed....then went back to bed...got back up at 8am (tho i didnt really want to by then as i warm and toastie in bed) and there was about an 1" and been snowing since....1.5" to 2" now i'd say.
And just about to take Holly out for a play in the snow ;D ;D
-
Had more overnight here too Chris - about 6 inches worth, which is covering frozen slush underneath.
There's no buses, been no gritting done, and I can't get out of our garage either.
So it looks like another day confined indoors - and I could've been earning some serious dosh this weekend!
Ah well ......... :'(

Wow :o Sorry to hear you been snowed in again Debs :(
I guess to much snow for the 4WD Disco :-/

A muddy puddle can sometimes be too much for a Disco ;D ;D ;D
-
On and off here, not coming down at the minute, only a very light sprinkle on the pavements, roads are clear.

It's not looking good :'(

I plan on doing that later ::)
Spoke to my office about 1/2hr ago.....while i was on the phone the 'on the road cars' went from 50 to 30 which is small amount.....and apparently it was manic in the office with work everywhere :D

Mrs Sethsmate wants to know if you can pop down with a few jars of those 'famous' pickled eggs Dave?
You and Holly most welcome!

aw debs - cant you tie a few shovels to the dogs and throw a ball in the general direction of the road? :y
failing that, get the fire on open a bottle of something nice and wait it out :( :o ;)
-
was pretty clear outside when i woke up at 8am, just got up and its belting down, covering everything now :(
-
i managed to get out this morning without having to select 4wd ;D
-
tell a lie, its coming down big style now. Can't see across the A4 :o
-
2 to 3 inches now, a piffling amount compared to some parts of the country. We escaped most of it.
Good job it's the weekend I guess.
-
It is now coming down with a vengence here in this part of Kent! :o :o :o
We were expecting it around 1000, but obviously the Snow God wanted to tease us ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

this thread has something missing ..
guess what ?

-
Up to about 7" here now and still coming down strong :o I've got to go back into work later as well :(
-
Being a dirty old stoppout that I am, I left a cold, but relatively snow free Luton this morning. Milton Keynes, nothing. Towcester, nothing. Silverstone, nothing. Brackley Hatch (about half a mile from Silverstone, hit it like a brick wall. A43 was treacherous, and the fun and games getting up 'Brackley Mountain'. Quite nasty, as all roads untreated (and I like driving in snow).
Though the worse of my problems were when I arrived home - she wasn't happy I hadn't called, and she was worried sick. Opps ::)

I was thinking about you yesterday when on radio 4 they were speaking to a reporter in Llanberis who was talking about the problems there.
A big warm virtual hug for you Debs, now Heathrow is closed it looks like the OOFers will have my presence for a little bit longer :y

Oops indeed! Guaranteed an earful if I dont do that..
big hug to Mrs TB, may be that will calm her down a little :y

What a f***** nightmare!!! There are that many abandoned cars round here all dumped with no consideration for other road users. Left the house at 14:45 to do the 2 miles to work for 15:30. Ended up leaving the car halfway as I just couldn't make the longer, less steep of the 2 hills I had to choose from. Some coffin dodger in a 10 plate Jag decided to get himself out of shape at the bottom of the hill which resulted in me having to stop >:( So with my momentum gone and not a prayer of getting up the hill without it I parked up and walked the last 3/4 of a mile. Coming back was easy, I just reversed back onto someones driveway and off back home. Got to the bottom of the close I live on I had to stop to let someone come out so momentum gone again. Made it halfway up the close before I managed to turn the ABS light on ;D So I just parked it up. I've now got dry socks on and a hot cup of tea and I'm not going anywhere for the rest of the day!!! :y
-
We've got about 4 to 5 inches of snow and because the daughter has my wifes car she is using mine. I was laughing my head off as she went fish tailing up the road this morning :)

Thank you, it`s sincerely appreciated! ;)
I`ve been out shovelling for most of the day and cleared two parallel 18" wide wheel tracks, about 250 yards long in the 2 ft. snowpack depth; if there`s no further drifting tonight, I hope to be able to clear the other 250 yards (or so) of driveway, towards the nearest paved road, tomorrow.
I hate feeling cut-off.....it`s so lonely and isolating; but at least I`ve done 'something'. :)
-
Some of these snow reports would be really useful..........if we knew where they were coming from!!!
-
Coming down thick& fast here now. Got to drive 17 miles to work tonight, and back again in the morning - should be fun. [smiley=evil.gif]
-
got a good 8" here now, was quite fun walking in it to the shops.
-
Absolutely nothing at all in Lincoln - apart from the remnants of a couple of weeks ago.
It was blooming cold here earlier @ -7 1st thing, has warmed up to -1 now though

Hope you are OK anyway.... :y

I woke up .. well, left bed about an hour ago and looked outside to see, shock, horror, 3" of snow.
I knew at that point that England would have imploded and sure enough, both major airports closed (I think Stanstead is still open - [edit] nope, that's shut too), all trains cancelled in the south, all busses off, and by the look of it, the roads around here haven't been treated.
FFS England, you're a bloody disgrace! Debs has an excuse, 2' of snow is enough to stop anything sensible in a country like ours, but 6", 3"?

As someone said to me - perhaps we should have an international appeal. Please, send aid. But don't laugh at us.

Can you not use the big tractor to make tracks for the disco to drive along....... :-?
Hope you are OK anyway.... :y
The snow`s that deep that I can`t even see the driveway`s alignment and the ground is so really boggy/soft on each side of the narrow rocky-track, so 6" off line and the 8 tonne tractor would go straight-in up to it`s axles (as would the Disco) :'(
When I`ve used the John Deere to 'mark' the driveway in previous snowfalls; its`weight has simply compacted the snow into super-dense ice and it`s then 'glazed' and taken weeks to thaw. :'(
There`s simply no substitute for 'elbow grease'...and before it`s compacted; the snow can actually be shoveled reasonably-well using a wide plastic shovel.
I did pay a contractor to come`plough the driveway one year; but ended up having spend the best part of a day trying to to rescue his tractor with mine....and still got a large-bill, even though He`d only cleared 25 yards of the 500 yard total. :(

It's been very picture-squeue here as well.
Taken an hour or so ago. This is the third time since yesterday I've dug out this half of the driveway.

Went out for a wander, but the snow was hammering down, and no pics have really come out.
-
Well looks like we have got off lightly again going by others posts and pics, looks similar to Aarons pics round here. 2 or 3 inches at the most, yet 8 inches in Hearhrow. :-/
Monday morning should be interesting.
-
Nowt here yet, other than the residue of the foot and a half of the other week that simply refuses to thaw....
-
At last we have had some proper snow here. Light dusting throughout this cold snap until.... 2 hours ago when it really started, now have 9" of snow sitting on the car roof.
Thought we were going to get stranded in Sainsbury's as they stopped all vehicles entering the car park and it was 'nose to tail' trying to get out. Sat looking at the hill topped by traffic lights leading out of Sainsbury's car park, and all the front wheel drive cars struggling to get up it. 'hmmmm ! not gonna get a run at this am I, with all the starting and stopping'.
Good old Miggy went up there with hardly a spin of the rear wheels. :y

Clucking Bells :o
I got back from an evening on the town at around 11:30am this morning - snowing hard and fast, and settling, but probably an inch at that point.
Went out for a walk around 3:30pm for an hour or so, it was around 6" then, though drifting badly where the hedges were broken.
Just looked out of teh patio door, going by the wall holding my flower beds up, its between 10 - 12" now :o :o :o
Is it a problem is now ABOVE the dampcourse?

Some of our polish colleagues are a little bemused. They get snow reliably every year, no fail, no gritted roads no help at all, your on your own.So they just deal with it. Winter studded tyres in winter, summer tyres in summer. It's the norm.
Here we never know what we're going go get until it's too late. It's not worth buying winter tyres, they may get used for a week or a month or not at all for 5 years. Same with the rest of the snow paraphernalia.
Although recently it's looking more serious it has to be said.

I can count on one hand how many times we have had snow more than a couple of inches deep in the last thirty years. As Michael Fish was once quoted we are blessed with a mild micro climate. However we have just had the heaviest snow in my area for forty years :o. Transport systems ground to a halt. No trains, no buses, roads are a nightmare. No sign of gritters even on the main trunk roads. I don't think our local authority owns a snow plow. I concidered closing my shop because of the weather for the first time in nearly thirty years of trading, but decided to open and did more trade than last Saturday :y I can't decide wether my customers are hardy or just mad [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] Freezing keen on the fallen snow now If we get any more snow fall on top of this it's going to really be fun :o

We seem to be getting of lightly again, looking at sky sports news there's heavy snow in north London as the ARSEnal game is off, various games off around the country too. :'(

Ours is thawing a lot when the sun is out... ...reckon it will be interesting when the temp drops when sun goes down.
Not that it matters, although I've cleared the drive and the car, I can't get it out of my road - shame, as they have ploughed the main road with the roundabouts between my end of town and Mrs G's parents place...

You have sun!? Send it here! :D
It hasn't been above freezing point since Thursday here, according to the outside thermometer (apparently it hit -8 last night). Consequently it still looks like it just snowed outside.. apart from next doors driveway which he cleared this morning (no idea why, he never parks his vehicles on it anyway!)
It's freezing in the house, too.. I really need to get cavity wall insulation and the loft insulated properly - while the heating is off between 9am and 3.30pm it's down to <15C in the house. Brrr.
-
I've just been well and truly caught in the snow! I decided to take Belle my dog out as it was beginning to get dark. It wasn't that cold, only about 0 or 1 I'd say. There was only a few remnants of ice left from last week. I went round a lovely sunken lake that was still frozen over completely. Round another lake with the swans and the ducks on, huddled up in the only bit that wasn't frozen.
I just started heading back (still 2 miles away from home) then I saw a haze about half a mile away over some street lights. Uh oh! Then whoosh there must've been an inch of snow in 15 mins. I know 1 inch doesn't sound like much, but it came down so quickly. Anyway I'm back now, it's still snowing, there's a bout 2 inches now.
I suppose it serves me right for whinging about people whinging about the snow! Although i enjoy it!

I've just been well and truly caught in the snow! I decided to take Belle my dog out as it was beginning to get dark. It wasn't that cold, only about 0 or 1 I'd say. Frozen lakes & rivers are very picturesque .. :) A friend of mine took this picture of the Grand Union Canal this weekend:

Haven't seen moving water frozen over like that since I was growing up by the river Ouse. :)

Had around 8 inches of snow here yesterday, between lunchtime and 9pm. Mig was showing minus 7 on the way home from work this morning.
The slipping sliding journey to work recommences in about half an hour, getting bored with it now. Would rather just get there quickly, with no fuss.

It got down to -17c here last night :o that sort of low temp. is unheard of around here the coldest it has been in the previous 50 years has been -12 in 1980.

That's a good picture there Aaron! I thought about a few but ti was too dark. It was like a winter wonderland. It reminds me of the Chronicles of Narnia!
